- Powered by Radeon® HD 4850 GPU @650MHz
- 512MB GDDR3 High Performance Memory @ 2000MHz

9800gtx+

isisnt the 9800 more speedish ? :O

Sigh. Yes, it has a faster clock speed therefore must be a faster card. Please, just do us all a favour and buy a 9800GTX+ based on that information, then this thread can die in peace.

No, the architectures are completely different. If you'd actually read any of the reviews you'd know that. It's like comparing only the horsepower and torque of two racing cars and saying the one with the bigger values must be faster; there are a lot of other factors to consider.

Just go and buy a card and stop dilly-dallying, seriously

sorry guys im just looking to put my money on a dependable product. maby il get a 4870..any links guys? if not il just get the 4850.

every one of you has been helpfull :)
thanks
Gary.

I'm in the market for a newer video card myself, and on windows performance figures alone would be going for an ATI 4850 based card.
The only thing I'm left wondering about however, is how usable ATI's cards/drivers are under Linux / Compiz 3D Desktop.

The Nvidia 7600GT I have at the moment has worked very well with Linux. Can the same be expected of an ATI ?

4850 v 9800GTX+

Ok I got both now, and the differences..

games look marginally better on the 4850, but only noticeable if you really really look at them carefully. The 4850 is better value for money in terms of speed, average fps etc.

Now to the 9800GTX+...in my experience there are less issues like flickering textures, random artifacting, it overclocks better (in terms of %). There are less random slow downs also, where the fps just goes down to 6-7 for a brief moment than the 4850.

In my opinion, they are equal when it comes to considering factors such as price, performance, Image quality and issues experienced between the 2.

If spending an extra 20 quid on a very similar performing product is ok, go for the 9800GTX+. If budget is an issue go for the 4850 :)

so im down to 2 options.

a ) buy a 4870
b) upgrade my motherboard ( currently asus p5gc-mx /1333) _ 4850.

what do you guys think.? :)

i got a 4850,and was disapointed with its performance,so i exchanged it for a 9800gtx+
now i get a overall better gaming experience.with no low fps dips.and i think the image is better with ditgital vibrance enabled.and from the benchmark reveiws ive read, the gtx is the faster card,

Google some info on the 4870, it's not hard. They're pretty much all the same, Powercolor or Sapphire are regarded as two of the best brands. :)

Guys im also buying a new 20 inch lcd screen. and the his 4850 512 VR just wont give me a good smooth game.

I think im going to head for the 9800gtx+ series. from all the 4850's the his was my only preferable option.i dont use much AA anyways. Ay good suggestions guys?

Why ask for advice if you aren't going to listen to it?

Il be happy to get a 4850 with 1 gig of ram, but i cant seem to find a good one here.

Advice is advice, there to be used as you wish. If he wants a 9800 then that's his right, we've given him enough info to make a decision either way.

Your brother is wrong, on ATI's 512MB is fine for 20" screens.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

and maby buying a cheaper tft may by 18 inches :)

is that a good one?

btw sorry for making this post super long. still havnt decided. and when i come back tonight im going to hit it hard till 1 am ;)

No don't get anything less than a 20" widescreen, or you'll really regret it. And a 4870 would be a good buy... you can get 1GB ones for £180-£190 online.

Just post it... otherwise we'll be here forever. And yes Powercolor is a good brand for ATI, as I said in my post already.
