Hello Chaps, hope you all had a good new years,

Just wanted some advise is this phone any good? Samsung i8510
Im tempted to buy this to replace my samsung soul as I'm bored with my current phone, and somebody i know can get the Samsung i8510 for £300 which i think is a great price offline. Anybody had any experience with this phone. Most reviews say its a great phone.

I had one for a week. I mainly got one for internet useage, eventually sent it back and got an Iphone.

The camera is brilliant, yes 8mpixels are gymicy, but the camera really is good.
For a classic slider style phone the the touch mouse pad is very well done
However there is no comparison with a touch screen phone when viewing web pages.
Another problem is that it will not run many S60 programs that I had running on my N95 before, TomTom and Garmin XT just would not run.
 
Hmmmmm, i would use some Internet on it, but i wanted to use it for a SAT nav as well! bit silly if tom tom don't work on it. got me thinking now, it just looks like a good all rounder. is the Battery life good? and the screen big?
 
I have one and love it. It's basicly an N95 with a better camera and good battery life.

I run tomtom on it with no problems but it will not use the internal GPS. I have to use a bluetooth dongle for GPS.

It has been a while since I had mine, so firmware updates may mean that some S60 programs now work on it

£300 seems perfectly reasonable for it, and I really doubt you'd get better

Edit: the tomtom not using the internal gps is an old problem that the n95 suffered from and its not the phones problem itself
 
Thanks for the link, looks like a good read, is there any alternative for this phone, this is the one looked most appealing, or anything coming out to wait for ?
 
I'd say stay away from it! Had one since the end of September, so far its had 3 batteries, new Mother Board and a new screen in it. It came back from CPW repair center new years eve, now the two top buttons dont work.

With everthing turned off 3G, WiFi battery lasts just one day (Master reset fixes this but after a week its back o the same). I didn't realise how slow it was compaird with a N81 8GB i've caged off my sister. I find the Camera Carp in low light and the Samsung Suite is useless.

So in the 3 months I've had it it's been unuseable for nearly 2 of them.

Aparently people are also finding viruses in the phone, factory fresh from Samsung.

Had a mess around with a mates Storm, that seemed ok just a little slow but I've read that a fix is in the pipeline.
 
im in the market for a new phone too, so far been looking at the N96, i8510 and the i900 but i've still not yet decided. i already have an N95 but the N9 6looks good it doesnt look much of an upgrade.
