Been having trouble getting my 4x1 gig sticks working, today ive ratcheted the nb voltage to 1.55 and this seems to have cured it. I have an antec spotcool pointed at it, just wondering if this kind of voltage is usually considered safe?

Yep will be fine mate, the X38 boards love the nb volts but do get quite warm, i ran around the same for 450x8 on my Q6600

Hi, shouldn't need it really, I run mine at 1.49 with no stabilty issues. Heat will be your problem especially when gaming so keep an eye on it...

Stangely enough just got a pretty odd crash, screen went blank with about a quarter of it flashing white at the top then the system rebooted.

Might need to send it back after all :(

I wouldnt run as high as that personally mate, whats cooling the nb and what are your temps?

An antec spootcool, not sure of the temps presently. Speedfan doesnt seem to read them, after the crash though the nb was around 55c.

1.55 is the only way all my ram sticks get recognised :(

+ memomry makes etc, only reason I ask is that to get 8gb (4 sticks) on my rig stable I went through kingston and Geil b4 I got to corsair, and I couldnt get stable without stupid northbridge volting which I wasnt prepared to do....

maximus formula with 4x1 sticks of ocz 1066

I got it a year ago plonked the sticks in and no probs, about 2 weeks ago it started getting picky and i had to up voltages to get all 4 recognised so obviously something on the mobo has went funny.

Could be your NB dying, is any part of your rig oc'd? I have had a board do this a while ago where it ran stable for ages, then I needed to put more and more voltage thorugh the northbridge to keep it stable, in the end it got really annoying so I flogged it on the fleebay as fully working, not good behaviour I know....

I wouldnt overvolt the NB though..

If you drop to 2 does it work? What about dropping volts and running at 800 just to test stability?

The boards clocked to 3.6 (q6600). Even with the overclock the nb never needed any additional voltage. This has just started the last couple of weeks where it decided it wanted more juice to recognice all 4 dimms, before that nb was set to auto.

I can drop it to auto and it will work but only with 1 stick of ram, for 2 i need 1.5 volts and for all 4 1.55.

It does sound like you need it mate..... See if any other posters with more ASUS knowledge can help u.. I have never owned an ASUS so im shooting in the dark a bit.. If its your only rig mate maybe stick it in your sig so we can see your specs better in te future??

Good luck with the RMA if its needed.
