Can someone recommend me some decent rechargable batteries

Ive been using some Ansmann 1.20V rechargable batteries, work fine and seem to last a long time on 1 charge.

Just get the highest capacity you can find. They all have the same voltage and chemistry so there's not really any difference over than capacity.

The best ones I've found:

AAA 1,250mAh Ni-mh
AA 3,200mAh Ni-mh
C 6,000mAh Ni-mh
D 12,000mAh Ni-mh
PP3 520mAh Lithium

Sorry - not true... The new 'hybrid' type retain their charge for much longer than standard Ni-MH (around 80% retained after 6 months) so they are much better for things like torches and lights which are usually lowish drain and used infrequently. The downside is that the rated capacity of the hybrids is a bit lower (e.g. Hybrid AA's are rated to approx. 2100mAH instead of up to 2900mAH for standard Ni-MH.

Anyway, I've bought several sets from http://www.vapextech.co.uk/acatalog/High_Power_Consumer_Batteries.html and have always been happy with them. I don't think they sell anything competing with OcUK...

Charge retention is a completely seperate matter to capacity. I would not buy rechargeable batteries where long retention is required when alkaline batteries are far superior in that respect.

Of course charge retention is a completely seperate matter to capacity, however if the retention rate of the hybrids is 'good enough' for a particular application then many people (myself included) are quite happy to go for those rather than alkaline...

Eneloop - If you might leave them sitting for a month or so after charge. Would be my first choice and are used in everything in our house now (including remotes/mice/toys/etc)
Annsmann - If you can face the delay in charging them & need more capacity (longer usage)

Also, as was stated - steer clear of the bay ones - most of which are fakes/copies and no where near the stated capacities.

I always thought non LSD batteries lost more than they do, but apparently it's only

5-10% on the first day, and stabilizes around 0.5-1% per day
According to this eneloops lost 1.3% after the first week, 5.7% after first month, so about 1.4% for the first two weeks.

Assuming you want to use your torch after two weeks of sitting on the shelf/in car etc.
LSD: 2.8% loss -> 2041 mAh
non LSD: 12%-24% loss ->2400-2816 mAh

So if you can get some 3200mAh batteries, you're gonna be better off doing so, depends how often you use the torch though.

I need 4 sets of 4x AA for my compact digi and also the flashgun as I keep a spare set in the camera bag when the used set empty and knowing that they still have 80% juice after 6 months of being in the bag is very handy so cheers for the Vapex link!
