Best NEW game 2008 (no sequels, existing franchises).

Looking at my games list it seems I've played a lot of Sequels :p I've got Mirrors Edge, Left 4 Dead and Dead Space waiting for me for Christmas though. I'd say my original game of 2008 has to be Bully Scholarship Edition. Loved that game :)
 
Didn't get to play LBP so i'm going on what i've played.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village - Probably a very under rated game, I'm thoroughly enjoying playing this and it's getting my mind working hard than it should be!

The puzzle solving with story telling is absolute genius and I hope they release sequels.
 
2008 has been a guff year for games overall in my opinion.

I don't play FPS games, so can't comment on Left4Dead.
I also can't comment on Mirrors Edge as the demo made me dry heave with motion sickness, thought I best avoid.

LittleBigPlanet is fun, but I wouldn't say it's fantastic. It's one of the best games of 2008 granted, but if it had been released in 2007 it would have been average.

Personally one of my faves this year has been World of Goo :D
Great little game.

On the sequel front (although off topic) I thought Rare did a great job with Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.
