Some tools kicked at my dads car and dented a few panels, rolled on the bonet and handily left some blood behind before smiling for our CCTV, they kicked in garage doors and ripped off wing mirrors from parked cars.

How do we do about claiming for the damage as it's going to cost £300 to put the car right.

You either go thru your car insurer (don't know if this would affect your no claims or premiums), or take the hit and pay £300 out of your own pocket. Which ever is cheaper.

Once the idiot that stabbed my tyre was convicted he had to pay me compensation to replace the tyre he damaged, have you had any court paperwork?

WHERE THERE'S BLAME, THERE'S A CLAIM!

Always wanted to say that :D I can die knowing my life has been fulfilled now.

Can you explain to a noob the difference between charged and convicted?

Charged = the police think they can pin it on them.
Convicted = they were found guilty of the offence by magistrate, jury or other.

It would be worthwhile getting in touch with someone that knows what they're talking about. CAB or somesuch. It may be that you need to follow up the criminal proceedings with a civil case.

Getting compensation thru the court could be an option.

But as someone said, the idiot who did the damage, chaces are, has no job & no money.

You may get a couple of quid a month off the scrote over the course of a few years, if your lucky.

Take them to the small claims court. £1 a week is still £1 a week. The little gits will always get away with it until someone makes a stand. What I would do is claim through insurance then work out how much the it actually costs you in excess and premium increases and claim for that. That way at least you get the damage paid for now and the rest will trickle in over time.

I had a headlight smashed in a road rage incident last year. Reported it to plod, got the guys number plate etc. Plod rang me two days later with the guy in a cell and said that they would give him a conditional caution and make him pay for the damage if I was OK with that.

Very surprised that Plod havent done the same for you. Either way if you have their names and addresses hand them to your insurers and let them go after them

Noob version :)
Charged, they accuse you of doing something.
Convicted, they prove you did what you were charged with in court.
Probably more to it, but that's the general idea.

I had to buy a new tyre, then provide the rozzers with the recipt which they used in the case to show the value of the damaged item.

Maybe it's cos it's an entire street and not just isolated.

Explains why they can't tell us their names if they haven't been convicted yet.

You might want to read this thread, where I asked a similar question. "oldcodger" is a magistrate, one of the people most likely to hand out sentences in this sort of case.

Basically, if you want compo from the courts sentencing the scrote then you are out of luck - you will be lucky if you even get the excess. And that will be in £2 instalments. Your other option is the civil courts, but that will probably cost you more than you will recover - I doubt any "no-win-no-fee" lawyer would be interested as they won't make enough money.

I suggest simple revenge. Just don't leave evidence.

If you've got Legal Assistance with your insurance policy that might be a possible start point.
Most will give you free advice over the phone if nothing else.
