Skoda Octavia VRS, opinions?

Well its that depressing time that comes to all us company car drivers, time to choose a new chariot.

My car is due in July and the online list for me opened up today, last time round its was a very easy choice,as soon as i saw the ST, i knew I had to have it, plus it helped that it was stupidly cheap on the scheme.

Anyway this time round the scheme is more focussed towards green options, but I spotted the Octavia VRS, which looks a good bet (2.0t 200bhp:D), Is it still based on the Golf GTI platform? im looking at the DSG version aswell, which costs me another £20 a month.

I need a 4 door car now (family reasons), so CTR's and the Megane R26, which are on the list, arent an option now.Im looking at the new Accord diesel GT, and the Merc C180 SE aswell, nothing else seems to be jumping of the page at me.

Anyway, enough of the rambling, does anyone have a Octavia VRS? what sort of range do you get on tank, whats the general quality like?
 
I love my vRS :)
I purchased a December 2006 model in August last year and I've driven around with a smile on my face ever since.

Now I have the 2.0 TFSI engine - good old "proper fuel" so I cannot comment with regards the Diesel engines.

The current Octavia is based on the same platform as the Audi A3, VW Golf, Seat Leon
You'll have seen what the car looks like - I still think of it as very much a wolf in sheeps clothing.
A non-too agressive front end.
Nice backside, spoiler not too big, the nice twin exhausts, distinctive lighting array.

The car is extremely nice to drive - I had a little road noise from the drivers door, but I went back to the dealer and they re-sealed it and its almost silent now.
Plenty of power and is in no way tiresome to drive - even after a long drive I'm fully alert and awake at the other end.

Build quaity appears to be good, I've certainly not had any problems with rattles or squeaks.
Nothing feels cheap about the car - the days of the Skoda badge meaning poor quality are thankfully firmly behind us.

You really should go and see one in the flesh and certainly arrange a test drive, but I think you'll enjoy it and I don't think you would regret getting one.
 
On average I can get around 400 miles on a full tank.
Warning light comes on with around 50 miles to go and I'm nearly always at or around 350 miles (if not a little more) when that happens.

Just trying to do the maths....55L tank.
4.5L = 1 Gallon
So approx. 12.2 Gallon tank
400 miles / 12.2 Gallons
Around 33mpg

Sounds about right.....I think :)

If I've had a week with a lot of motorway driving then my mpg will increase - the vRS just seems to like life on the motorway.
My usuall drive into work is a 30mph - 60mph affair, so mpg isn't excellent.
 
Only the 2.0 T FR Leon is on the list, and tbh, the car is quite naff inside, and im not too keen on the styling.
 
any decent bmws on the list?
although the vRS is probably the best car on the list for you. it seems like a nice list, someone likes you ;)
 
Dont like BMW's dude, well not the ordinary ones anyway, Ive always said If I were to have a BMW, it would be proper 6 pot, we have a decent range of 1's on the list, and small engines 3's.

Ive crossed Fords of the list as im fed of the afterservice, my last 4 cars have been Fords, and apart from that nothing is standing out, Im quite partial to the new Accord, looks quite mean, but the Diesel GT is the only one that I 'like'.And the Merc C class, looks nice, kit levels are ok aswell.

Which 1's and 3's are on the list and which trim levels? I think you may find that one or two of them are so good they may change your mind.
 
The 1's I dont like at all, dont care how well they drive, they are just so damn ugly.The 3 series are the 320d SE and below, I took the 318d M sport out for drive, and it left me very unimpressed.Didnt even look all that interesting considering the trim level.
 
Whilst the 1 Series does indeed look cack lets face it a Skoda Octavia doesn't look nice either, so thats looks out of the equation surely?

Is the 120d M Sport on there?
 
Seriously, I really really dont like the 1 series, its all subjective of course, but the VRS is a much better looking car.Plus the 1 is a bit of tarts car would you not say?

I completely agree with you, it looks crap and is very girly but come on, you are comparing it to a Skoda Octavia, which looks like a crap minicab. It's the sort of car that you only ever see filthy, full of broken printers. So obviously image and looks is of no concern to you?

This isn't the BMW fanboy in me speaking - but it's a much better car than the Octavia.

I just prefer the image of the octavia VRS to the 1 series tbh, Whilst it is a better car, I just dont like it, not that difficult to comprehend.

I drive a Ford Focus, so im not that bothered about image:p I dont see the octy VRS any different to that.
 
You're... odd.

120d M Sport or an Octavia vRS? Ignore the image thing, a vRS is junk in comparison :(
 
depends what you need really. the octavia is faster and much bigger and much roomier, which would be advantageous family-wise
the 120d sport is just better though ;)
 
Octavia vRS petrol is 7.3 to 60, 120d is 7.6, hardly a world of difference! If the 123d is on the list I'd 100% have that - 7 seconds dead to 60 and an awesome engine.

It's not even as if the vRS is well specced, it has absolutely no luxuries at all, even digital climate control is an option.
 
I much prefer the look of the new octavia vrs to the BMW 1 series, so does my girlfriend.

Calling the new vRS junk in comparision is waaaay over the top.

They are also pretty good value for money, especially compared to the 1 series.
