I'm helping my brother get his car back on the road, currently SORN parked on the drive. The car's MOT is also overdue.

What do we do in this situation? I tried to tax it online but it tells me i need a valid MOT. Can we drive it to a pre-booked MOT test with no tax?

If not, how do we go about it?

Cheers,
Adam.

Cheers mate, ill get him to book a test tomorrow :)

Was worried it would be illegal to drive it to the MOT test with no tax.

Shall we ask the MOT center to give us some written proof of the booked MOT test or something?

No need. As long as you are on the way to the test or coming back from it (i.e. anyone who stops you can ask and find out) then you're perfectly legal.

Sorry to sound paranoid, but what if you pass an ANPR van? Surely people try to get away with having no tax by this sort of excuse the whole time. I know in this case it's genuine, just wondering really.

Then they ring up whoever is doing the MOT and ask whether or not they have someone due in at whatever time.

If you mean a delayed ticket in the post (not sure they do this for MOT/Tax) then you'd have proof of the MOT. If they pull you over, you can give them the details of the MOT station and have it sorted in minutes. :)
