Hi all,

Am interested in this as a possible career option - not immediately, but in the future. I was wondering if anyone worked in the police at the moment and if they could answer a few questions?

1) What is it like?
2) How hard is it to become an inspector?

thanks,

Daven

The training is excellent mate, enjoying every minute of it, im just waiting to get CS gassed. Handcuff and batton training is out of this world.

I seriously recommend that you try attempting to get in mate.

that is so weird, I have just been looking into joining the police forces, and am off down tommorrow to check when they are recruiting! it seems fairly difficult to get in compared to most jobs but there is certainly room for progression and it seems to have the variety I am looking for :)

Currently in my IPLDP training. There's a lot to learn for the exams you have to do but it's all good, enjoying it a lot. Not too long now until I go out on coached patrol. :)

I'm not in yet but i'm applying to be a special constable and have my final interview and fitness test on Wednesday. Looking forward to it but also a bit nervous.

I have one friend who joined and got through everything but found out he didn't like it so I hope i'm the opposite!

Depends what area you go into. You need to spend Two years "on the beat" then you can choose what you specialised in, Air Support, traffic cops or mounted section. Or what i want to do !!! ARMED RESPONCE!!!! Wooo!!!! One of my Personal safety trainers is in armed responce and loves it :p

It does sound like it has the variety to keep me interested. At the moment I am just finishing my degree then I have a job lined up, however I have always been interested in the police and will definately keep my options open for when I am a bit older.

Thanks for the information - any news on the amount of holiday entitlement?

We run across this question once in awhile. Most police who really are police won't identify themselves on forums. They like to lurk in the shadows and watch the unsuspecting.

Obviously the rookies here don't know any better, though. ;) :D
