Hi guys,

Now I mostly train with weights, but start each session with cardio.

Last year I was running in ankle socks and Nike Court Traditions (ones with 3 velco straps) because I was too much of an arse to buy decent running shoes. After a while I began to develop a blister, always in the same place, on the same foot. It was just behind the ball of my right foot on the inside as my foot begins to arch upwards. This stopped me running so much and I resorted to the cross trainer instead of forking out for shoes.

This semester I want to run! So today purchased so Asics Gel 1140 a reasonably good running shoe, or so I'm told. Today was my first session back and after 20 minutes in the same place on the same foot once again the blister has returned. Its quite large about an inch long and a 1.5cm wide. It must either be to do with the shape of my foot or how I run!

My left foot was completey fine, It didnt feel like my right was slipping inside the shoe, but obviously was. I'll do them up even tighter next time. I was sifting through blister threads and noticed 'Running socks' have been recommended a few times.

Can anybody recommend any? I'm after 'ankle' versions :) And do they actually work!

Also pop or not to pop? I've found popping them tends to just leave a hollow pocket of skin which eventually dries up and falls off!

What are you actually supposed to do with them?

Regards

can't help you with running socks i just wear normal socks with running shoes, would guess all running socks kind of generic though?

afaik the blister bubble is there to stop any infections. popping it wouldn't make it heal any quicker so ideally leave it be :D

I use them,I havent got a blister yet, but the max I run is 6-7 miles, worst I get is when my toes rub together, and get sore.

Did you have the shoe fitted? Just because its a running shoe,it doesnt mean its the right shoe for you.

Noted, i'll leave it to heal!

Nope wasn't fitted, the most i'd be running atm is 3/4 miles, not cutting at current. I'll give them a go. I'll also try and get the shoe as tight as possible. Its difficult, because when its tight enough to hold my foot firmly its also cutting of circulation! and I won't fit into a smaller size comfortably I'll try and focus on not running like a spaz too!

Decent socks do help - but it does depend on the depend on the cause on how effective they are.

I use hilly mono skins for everything from training to racing, short to ultra distance. Only ever had blisters when I deserved them!
