With the price of fuel at an all time low, it's great news for me, but with speed cameras everywhere, and my job dependant on my licence, driving the rx on a nice A road is too risky. I take it to track days whenever i can, but this isn't enough for me, i wanna do it more often. Plans are to strip the interior out, full welded roll cage, single turbo (something like a GT35/40 is a nice affordable unit, full polyflex bushes all round, coilovers and decent pads/discs and fluid and i'm halfway to where this guy is i think. Does anyone else race cars on here or do the odd trackday?
 
did you just post that vid on mrc? Its awesome.

Id add decent track tyres and some 17's to you list.

and if your going big single....a nice big street port :D

well you can afford to run an fd as a daily, so to me you're the lucky git.

You gunna be getting another car as a daily then? An FD with stupidly hard suspension and a cage would be a nightmare day to day. Also it would send any chances of a propper suspension set up out the window.

Other issue id address is is it worth the single conversion? Unless you're doing it yourself, in which case it would be a lot less

Many owners report an increase in MPG when converting to single, as well as the benefits of doing away with the rats nest of vacuum hoses which control the stock twins.
 
i would be going to american rx specialists for parts,way cheaper than over here even with the exchange rate being so crap.you considered converting your stock twins to hybrid no sequential units?you can get best part of 400bhp in that sort of trim.if going for mega power i would deffo advise having a rebuild done first and a street ported motor to make better use of the available air coming in.

And yes, that Corvette sounds amazing, esecially when he comes off the throttle.

As for fuel economy (and I have no doubt Rob already knows this, being an active rotary forum(s) member) I get about 18Mpg on a reasonably short commute (20+Mpg on a long run) with minor modifications (street port, Apexi PFC, filters, exhuast ~300@Fly), however a friend's single (~450@fly) would get much better economy - as it didnt come on boost cruising. :eek:

this is true, but if your producing a lot more power its going to become very expensive. Youve got to worry about the new turbo kit it's self, a decent intercooler, getting enough fuel into the engine. An aftermarket ecu, if you don't already have one, and a re-map. Maybe a new clutch to deal with the extra power. Also most people that go single get at least a street port to aid with a earlier spool + give extra power. This means the engine needs to come out and while its there you might as well rebuild it. As you can see, if you pay someone to do this, your gunna need deep pockets. In fact with the market as it is, its cheaper to buy a single turbo fd. Of course it may not be what you want, and if you're willing to work on the car yourself it could be a lot cheaper :D
 
man, how much would you love to be that skilled at driving and be able to skilfully drive a 900+BHP beast like that!

True, they do make perfect track cars being lightweight, perfectly balanced, cheap to buy and highly modifiable, but for everyday use, i want something a little more subtle. Something that i can park anywhere without worrying about it, something that irons out the bumps in the road, something that doesn't stink of fuel lol. Mine hasn't moved in nearly a year. I rebuilt the engine myself due to water seal jacket failure, but it needs a new clutch because it slips when giving it some, it also needs new brakes because i toasted mine on the ring, and the suspension needs sorting out as the rear end is sloppy as hell. Basically it's just a car that is totally wasting away being driven on salty wet, bumpy limited speed roads, these cars are aching to be ragged round a track, thats why so many owners want to turn them into track/drag/drift cars. They are worth next to nothing in the current market (i paid £6k for mine back in 2004, spent another £4k in modifications and i would be very lucky to get £5k back for it, it isn't worth selling, so i might as well turn it into a 10 year project and get it somewhere near the spec of damiens yellow fd

personally...

I'd spend the money on making sure the car had a good geo and the existing stuff is in good working order and then spend the initial money on decent 1-2-1 driver training. I'd imagine (although not knowing your circumstances) it would give you the best rewards, and it will mean that as you skill and experience increase, you can judge what needs upgrading and what your looking for from the mods. As an example I've got my s2000 properly sorted with a decent geo now, running the recommended tyres, and with all the other mechanicals in great condition (bar the clutch which is being done later this month)

I'm now going to get myself booked on a carlimits 4 person 1-2-1 training day as a good starter for ten, and ensure that each time I do a trackday I get at least 1 session of tuition. Bit by bit I'll improve and start getting closer to the cars true limits. I'm sure if you compared someone in your car as it stands with superb skill over someone in your car with some mods and average skill you'll find that skill wins

Really want to get a cheap Jap sports car, strip it out and track the hell out of it. Not as serious at this though.
