what difference over a core 216 260 ?
More memory, more shaders, higher clock speeds, higher power requirements

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

The difference in performance is tiny. It will cost you too much time and effort to make it worthwhile.
It would be madness on a 22" screen.
Put the money towards a better screen, so you can appreciate the high-resolution performance of the setup you already have.

I've got a 26" Samy, the 22" is a secondary screen
I was thinking the extra RAM would help in a few games, GTA being one of them.
not too much trouble really, buy the 280's stick 260's on the bay, I estimate it would cost me about £60-£70 quid to upgrade.
Come on guys, give me a proper reason not to sell up and upgrade.
There's always the risk of a transaction going sour on the bay, postage problems etc.
Then there's a chance that at least one of your new cards will be problematic for you.
I don't know of a single game where GTX 280 crossfire significantly beats GTX 260-219 crossfire. Then factor in that the 260s generally clock better, bringing the marginal difference even closer. If you have especially good clocking 260s, you may even beat the 280 performance anyway. When I had a GTX 260, it was 100% stable at a very high clock that beat stock 280s.
Have you attempted OCing your cards yet?
At then end of the day, I would save upgrading until something which actually provides noticable gains arrives. You already have an extreme high-end setup that will breeze through most games at very high settings.
Doh.. I ordered a XFX260-216 Black Edition for £10 less yesterday and kicking myself. Ah well sods law!
Would anyone recommend/not recommend upgrading my 8800 Ultra to one of these super-temping GTX 280s? (I game at 1920x1200.)
Thank you v.much, your words of wisdom & sanity have given me some clarification.
**still tempted though**
Cancel the order or send it back
I've just RMA's my 260-216, wasnt happy with the performance anyway as I like my AA and game @ 1920x1200.
May just go for a 4870x2 as I orignally thought, although might be swayed by the 295 if nvidia price it within the realms of sanity.
