While I'm really tempted by the 280GTX pricing I can't help but feel I'm spending more than I need too on a gfx card for my needs.

The problem is the 9xxx cards are too old and slow now, not much faster than my 8800GT and in some cases overpriced.
The 260/280GTX cards are expensive, powerful and power hungry.

Unlike ATI, Nvidia doesn't seem to have any solution for the £150-£200 price point and I'd very much like to know if the 55nm 260 GTX will be that card before spending £230+ on a current G200 card?

I can't help but notice that the apart from one model, the stock levels of all 65nm 260 GTX's are in single figures. Is this a sign they're all about to disappear and be replaced with 55nm models? ;)

the GTX 280's just got about £100 price cut ready for their 55nm GTX285 replacements, their now on same pricing as the 260's so if u dont mind the extra power use and less overclockign potential then get a 280.

I believe from overseas prices the new 55nm cards will be around the original 260 and 280 prices.

mate, your sig's too big

Go for a gtx 280, as low as 199 now, you wont regret it!

I might, £230 is still a lot for a graphics card if you don't play games all the time and those 280GTX's in 65nm form are power hungry. Like I say Nvidia seems to have nothing between £150-200 which is why I'm hoping a 260gtx in 55nm will fill that gap. :)

55nm GTX260's i've seen floating about have all been ~£220-£230 much the same as the current crop of GTX260's.

The 280's are only cheap as they are clearing the way for the GTX285 which will then take their old price point.

Which is good considering they use less power and are clocked higher. The closest factory overclocked 280 GTX that matches the 285 clocks is £400!
