Man has hiccups for two years

A month ago I had it for 6 hours and I was getting really worried I was going to turn into one of those people. Turns out it was completely random. Oh and it really hurt.

I think it might have been the medication I just started taking, but it doesn't happen any more.(

Did the medicine contain codeine/morphine? I have to take tramadol every now and again for back pain as it's the only medicine which helps and i always get hiccups after a few hours. I've tried every method in the book to get rid of them; they work for a minute or two then they come back, lasting a good few hours. Had the same problem when i was given morphine in hospital a few years ago. I don't think i'd make a good smackhead :D

Yup, but I take them pretty much daily.
Not an issue now, just when I first took them.

Problem is that even on them my neck is killing me still.. can you imagine the pain when it wears off.
Sitting here, at work, right now it's like someone is stabbing my neck/between my shoulder blades and even trying to keep a good posture...oh well thread derailment talk here... /me stops.

Beh :(

I saw this guy on BBC breakfast today. The first hiccup he looked like he was faking.. like it was forced.. but then I considered.. what if it isnt natural.. what if he is doing it to himself.. mentally.. its quite hard to beat your own subconscious.

I think after doing it for 2 years you'd have adapted in some way to stop the pain, help the interruption of talking etc.

Maybe he was the hiccup all along

Coming to you soon by M. Night Shyamalan

If this is the same man that was on the One Show a little while back, then he's tried everything.

I wonder if the DSS would class him as disabled?

2 years? pffff

Guinness World Records said:
American man Charles Osborne had the hiccups for 68 years, from 1922 to 1990
:D

EDIT: Beaten, but it still stands so nerrr

Surely this is some kind of twitch and means theres a potentially a serious neurological condiotion?

yes I know that some of the best doctors in the UK have probably been over this, but it could just mean they haven't diagnosed it yet.

edit:

Imagine the relief when he finally stopped on June 5th. It'd be the best day of my life after hiccuping for 68 years :p

Surely his life was ruined after the 68 years of straight hiccuping? so although he must have been relieved, at the same time I can't help but think he'd be annoyed it didn't stop sooner. I would! :(
