Hi, I ordered a new T7400 processor from ebay, whcih came from Hong Kong. Tracking it on parcelforce's website, it arrived on the 5th december and is in customs.

obviously i've been calling them loads and trying to find it, and most responses i get are "it's out of our hands as it's in customs". Then i get the response below.

He's claiming that customs are checking pc components (specifically from hong kong) for fake ones being brought over (specifically from hong kong) . Is there anything behind this or is he just trying to shut me up?

Dear Michael Cosmas

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by this incident.

Games consoles and PC items from Hong Kong are currently undergoing Customs processing away from the usual Coventry Site to find out if it they are counterfeit.
Customs will write to the customer if the item is counterfeit or hand it back to PFWW for delivery if it`s genuine.

I am sorry but we have not time scale from Customs for this procedure and we are unable to investigate the matter with customs.

I am sorry I am unable to provide any further information at present.

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us again at this email address: [email protected].

Please ensure that you include the full history of your enquiry so far in order to help us respond to you as quickly as possible.

Our hours of business are: Mon to Fri: 8am to 7pm and Sat: 8:30am to 12:30pm

Kind regards

If they are providing you with parcelforces email address have you checked with them if they have any knowledge of a parcel?

Can they provide you with a tracking number?

Yeah i have the tracking number, and it works on their website:

Date Time Location Tracking Event

05-12-2008 21:51 International Hub Arrived in destination country
04-12-2008 20:17 Delivery Agent - HONG KONG - PTT Left origin country
04-12-2008 13:30 Delivery Agent - HONG KONG Collected from customer

but it's been like this for a month now so I thought they'd lost it until i got the above e-mail.

Well at least you know you havn't been scammed, have had stuff from hong kong myself and has arrived within a few days. This sounds like a problem you will need to take up with parcelforce, or trading standards as a month is a long time. Unless its due any day due to the holidays?

well that's why I've been so patient, becuase i guess now's the busiest time. the ebayer is genuine, all his feedback for similar stuff is good, only thing is he didn't get insurance (not that i asked for it).

the annoying thing is when i call customs, they can't use parcelforces tracking number, and so there's no way for me to ask about my specific parcel.

If it is really stuck with customs and they aren't doing anything about it, I doubt trading standards could do much. This is the proper first week back for full blown trade so give it a couple of days I'd say.

lol, just called customs again, asked if he could put me through to someone at customs who can use parcel forces tracking number.

put me through to the MD's office (01908687249), and the woman said the tracker says the device arrived in the UK in a jiffy bag which was ripped open and had nothing inside, and so they threw the bag away.

I kinda blame myself for not asking the seller to send it insured but there's not much i can do apart from leave him bad feedback about his packaging skills.

what a way to spend £120!

You could perhaps try opening one of those resolution things with eBay based on the inappropriate packaging used. Don't know what the seller stated re. packaging but proof of postage is not proof of delivery and I would have thought some kind of distance selling regulations apply. Granted this is a company in Hong Kong who may not give a monkeys but they might care about how eBay view them.

I'm waiting for the user to respond, i've told him what i've found and have mentioned that he should definitely have put it in a box, and mentioned ebay feedback but I'll see what he says.

As for paying for insurance, if I'd paid insruacne for every item i got from abroad i would be much more than £120 under. It's not exactly expensive anyway, and this is the first issue i've ever had with a parcel.

just found another T7400 on ebay in the UK, got it for £105! (when i bought the hong kong one for £120, the ones in the UK and europe were £175). Seller says it's new, and he looks genuine with great feedback.

I'll let you know if the 30% ghz increase and double cache is worth all this pain.

Or some customs person got himself an early Xmas present..

Luxury goods without insurance can be tempting to some people when they know the buyer can do absolutely nothing about it.

Of course the seller might have tried to scam you as well..but then again why would you be told that your item had gone through customs for checking if it was just a bag?????? Doesn't make much sense to me, right?

Apparently the MD office is where items go just before they're sent through customs, and that's where the item was disposed of. (and why when i was ringing customs they didn't have a clue about it).

man, thats shocking. If that was me, id'e have gone spare at the guy who sold me it....
£120 is a lot of money to some people

well there was no point me saying anything to the person on the phone, they're just reading off what it says on the screen.

I'm surprised a lot of you are commenting on how much money I've lost. I don't see it as that much money compared to what I've seen people on here spend on the latest and greatest computers, which in a year would have lost a significant % of its value.

It's not about the amount of money, it's about being conned. It's the action that is infuriating, that someone thought he was smart enough to take your money in such a shameful way. It doesn't matter even if it was a pound or one thousand.

Since you found out that what the customs say is true then you should file a claim with ebay and paypal (if that's what you used to pay) and you will get all your money back.

Jiffy bags should be banned imho! they are rubbish and do nothing other than help things to get stolen or damaged. I know my post doesnt add anything constructive but I had to vent about the curse of the jiffy bag lol.

On what grounds will i get the money back?? I thought Paypal and ebay only covered if the seller fails to send or if i receive the item and it's not as described?
