...Join the army, they say. It will be fun they say...
Makes me laugh everytime I hear it.
The main problem with CoH is when they tried to release teh patch which balanced out the gameplay it ruined it for the military buffs.
In ww2 Afrika Corps (RL) the chuchills and cromwells were notoriously unreliable. In the end they ended up using the American built Sherman tanks which are primarily infantry support tanks.
What many people hate about CoH is that there is a lot of historical buffs who play it and actually hate these latest game balancing patches. While it benefits the ordainary player to stop the German armour becoming overpowered in real life A tiger tank was solely designed to take out the allied armour.
It was so effective it only needed one shot with a range up to 1km to destroy a Allied tank. Luckily only ever 500 ever entered the theatre of war. Even then it was beset with reliability and mechanical problems. The American Pershing was then built to counteract the tigers.
The tiger had a 88mm gun which was modified from a 88mm flak cannon that the germans used heavily through the war. So it had no problem ripping through anything.
There is a report of a Tiger tank in Tunisia being hit by a 75mm french gun emplacement. The shells bounced off the armour and the range was only 50 metres.
Everyone has heard about Erwin Rommel and his ability to command Panzers 4's and and what he did to the Brits during the North Africa campaign.
But with Tiger tanks it was an another tank commander called Michael Wittman. Wittman, Tiger commander, had kills of 119 tanks, including great success in Normandy after D-Day. In Normandy, Wittman’s Tigers destroyed 25 British tanks, 14 half-tracks, 14 Bren-gun carriers in a short and bloody battle around the village of Villers Bocage. However, Wittman lost 6 Tigers which were very difficult to replace – as were his experienced crew.
