Just finished "Company of Heroes, opposing fronts"

...Join the army, they say. It will be fun they say...

Makes me laugh everytime I hear it.

The main problem with CoH is when they tried to release teh patch which balanced out the gameplay it ruined it for the military buffs.

In ww2 Afrika Corps (RL) the chuchills and cromwells were notoriously unreliable. In the end they ended up using the American built Sherman tanks which are primarily infantry support tanks.

What many people hate about CoH is that there is a lot of historical buffs who play it and actually hate these latest game balancing patches. While it benefits the ordainary player to stop the German armour becoming overpowered in real life A tiger tank was solely designed to take out the allied armour.

It was so effective it only needed one shot with a range up to 1km to destroy a Allied tank. Luckily only ever 500 ever entered the theatre of war. Even then it was beset with reliability and mechanical problems. The American Pershing was then built to counteract the tigers.

The tiger had a 88mm gun which was modified from a 88mm flak cannon that the germans used heavily through the war. So it had no problem ripping through anything.

There is a report of a Tiger tank in Tunisia being hit by a 75mm french gun emplacement. The shells bounced off the armour and the range was only 50 metres.

Everyone has heard about Erwin Rommel and his ability to command Panzers 4's and and what he did to the Brits during the North Africa campaign.

But with Tiger tanks it was an another tank commander called Michael Wittman. Wittman, Tiger commander, had kills of 119 tanks, including great success in Normandy after D-Day. In Normandy, Wittman’s Tigers destroyed 25 British tanks, 14 half-tracks, 14 Bren-gun carriers in a short and bloody battle around the village of Villers Bocage. However, Wittman lost 6 Tigers which were very difficult to replace – as were his experienced crew.

there's a new huge patch coming out very shortly

If the patch had come out a few months ago like it was supposed to i may still play coh... as it is i haven't played it in months... the game is totally unbalanced and its very rare for the allies to loose a team game, or for the panzer elite and british to lose a 1v1 game (unless playing each other of course)

regardless of this though i definitely agree the games are still great.. just wish the patches where a bit quicker in coming out

Anybody here played Faces of War? Its a similar style of game but not an RTS as such. It was the direct sequel to Soldiers: Heroes of WW2, which is one of my fave games of all time.

Was given this a a crimbo present by the misses and i am loving it so far.

Playing throught the original first but i keep getting my ass handed to me on one of the missions. Repair the bridge and defend the square :(

Little tip - repair the bridge, cross, but dont capture the point in the middle of the square. Lay mines, tank traps, wire, and sort out your squads and get upgrades and a Sherman or 2 handy..... THEN capture the centre point.

You can also grab a couple of the nearby resource points, (dont push on too far) they wont do anything for you until you get the point in the square taken, but the German harrassing infantry will focus on re-taking them, and should get blown up by the mines you planted.... remember? :p

Have fun - hope you enjoy that mission as much as I do

Loved both games and dont think i have ever got around to completing them both. The single player portion was pretty long but not tiresome and skirmish mode and mp was the icing on the cake. The graphics have held up well in my opinion.

For whatever reason I stopped playing this half-way through ages ago and never got round to going back to it. Not sure why because I liked it. Might fire up a game tonight.

I hate this retailer that screwed me: Bought Coh and CoH: OF, original for 5 euro OF for 6 €, next day both go out of stock, after awhile they get CoH and OF is still on expected list, after a month or so they say they won't get it any more and gave my my money back. I checked prices and it's bloody 39 euros at the next cheapest shop here. Can't but it on steam either because expansions on steam are not compatible with non steam retail copy's. So here I thought I could get both CoH's for 11 euro and now I'm stuck without the expansion ( no 40 euros for an expansion is way too much)...

OF isnt really an expansion, its a standalone game...someone can back me up on this though.

No, it's coh with 2 new campaigns and 2 new playable factions to play with in MP. While people with normal CoH can still play against the 2 new factions.

Afaik anyways. Both games use the same .exe since v2.1 iirc. I have the OF campaigns greyed out in my main menu...

technically its a standalone game in that you dont need the original to play it ... but in reality they are one and the same game you dont even need to put your second cd into your pc all you need is the cd key to unlock the OF stuff, as long as your fully patched up that is

ps. this isn't entirely true, my game didn't have a couple of the new sound files which you can only get off the cd
