GTX 280, AA at 1280x1024 much of a performance hit?

Hi, just waiting to get home with my new card and I'm curious, I know these cards handle low resolutions only slightly better than the last ones but how does antialiasing affect performance as opposed to resolution?

I'm happy with my 19" VP930 screen and I will be for another year or two but more AA would be nice :)

Is this a joke??

I'm pretty sure you could slap on 16xCSAA on EVERY game and not notice a performance hit (maybe bar Crysis).

GTX 280 is just overkill for that resolution, so just go overkill on the AF / AA whenever you feel like it.

I can max everything out at 1280 x 1024 with my 8800 Ultra and not see a hit by piling on the AA & AF.

At that res stick everything to maximum in DX10 and it will still be idling almost!

You can use lots of AA and AF no problem at that res.

A GTX280 is such a waste at 1280 x 1024 :/, upgrade your monitor to either a 22" or 24".

Or save some money and get a 4850. A GTX280 is OTT at that res - even if you want AA/AF.

Well they're pretty cheap and I've also got a 1080p Sony tv to plug into it but thanks for the replies.

It's removed all traces of slowdown from Fallout 3 for me so i'm happy for now. :D

Depends on the game... something like farcry 2 on ultra settings with 8x FSAA at 1280x1024 will struggle to hit 60fps with dips to mid 30s. I wouldn't say it was overkill myself on more recent titles at that res - tho it will be with a lot of older titles.

Exactly, I just loaded Crysis Warhead with similar settings and it certainly wasn't butter smooth, with a q6600 at 3.5ghz

get yourself a Dell S2409W

they're £220

just upgraded my 19" xerox to this and it's amazing :)

my 8800gt handles most games fine on it.

no point having all that card for a 19" screen :)
