He was without doubt the deadliest poacher yes.
The point someone made was that Bent was old fashioned and wasn't versatile. Neither was Van Nistelrooy but it didn't affect him at all.
All I'm saying is so what if Bent is old fashioned and not versatile, it doesn't make him less of a player. Not all players have to be versatile.
Not sure where this BS idea players have to be versatile came from. Rooney would be a better midfielder or a better striker if he stuck to a single position tbh. its better to have 11 players being the best they can be in all positions rather than have lots of versatile but not quite as good as they should be players chopping and changing.
The fact that the quality of the premiership is way down this year with all these workhorse run around like headless chicken strikers around doesn't seem a coincidence. Chelsea have won 3 in 10 games and are still right up at the top, would they not have dropped further behind in any other year?
Bent's quality, he might not be the best striker ever, but in 2/3 years he's barely had a chance to really perform, give him more than half a season of sporadic appearances to judge him tbh. being more versatile or being a better striker makes no difference when the midfield 4 changes everygame and underperforms, no amount of running fixes 10 other players playing badly. if those 4 players are working well theres no problem with any good striker no matter their style. If the 4 players behind are sucking massively, the striker won't have a decent chance in most games.
Arshavin I'm under the impression he prefers to play deep rather than as a striker, somewhere between a fabregas and a Bergkamp role in the middle, hence being touted as a replacement for Fabregas. Its a joke signing. in 4 months Fab is back, we have a bunch of quality strikers with 2 to come back from long term injury, where will his massive wages and expensive transfer fee fit into the squad next year?
For a man who won't spend money to ***** £15mil maybe on a player for 4 months seems insane, another sign of desparation from Wenger if it happens, and yet more proof he's meaning for us to play without a DM. Just as Fabregas was left without support, so will Arshavin and being a little bit of a primadonna I don't like the chances of him helping out defensively when Song and Denilson suck. Hey, he could turn out to be the best signing ever, who knows, its a huge risk and money that was without question need to spend on a DM.
