sr447, I used to work in housing options so maybe i can offer some advice.

I take it that you know under the new LHA rules that HB is paid direct to yourself meaning that you do not necessarily need to tell your landlord you are recieving HB as some for some strange reason dont seem to like people on HB. Obviously this might be a problem with your current LL as he sounds unwilling to provide you with a statement of your current rent charges, but a new tenancy may not be such an issue.
LHA pay very favourable rates nowadays, often exceeding current market rents in some areas so you should not have too much of a problem.

I take it you have been to a drop in session in Kings-X with housing options or in West Hampstead with the private sector team if it still exists. They will be able to give you some good advice, more so than me as I left a few months ago now.
Also LHA can begin payment within a week. All you need to do is take your contract down to the HB office and it should get processed quickly although you do still need to find a deposit which I understand is not easy.

Sadly I'll have to go through them anyway to have whatever accomodation paid for (if I find some).

I know you won't have money to pay the rent but it does take a long time to legally evict someone so there's always the option of just refusing to leave until the council sort you out?

Well I have some winter clothing (ok, perhaps an overstatement)...

That eviction thing is only true if 1) the landlord doesn't also live there and 2) a non-rolling tenancy agreement and I'm not near the end of it. Otherwise landlords can evict at will or with a month's notice with section 20 I believe its called (unless there's an enforcable contract saying otherwise).

Just cause public disorder offenses (read defecating on the pavement) outside the police station until they agree to sort it out properly. The worst that can happen is the offer of an £80 fine or a night in the cells, hardly a difficult decision in your situation. They'll soon get the message

i was talking to him on msn for a bit and we were generally ranting about everything as i'm in a similar situation except not quite as bad as i had my parents to full back on. we had a bit of a heated debate about uni and he went offline and hasnt been back.

I wasn't really asking for that kind of help, I was offered it. After all the thread was about housing, not "lend me £x". If you think I've broken the rules feel free to close this. In fact just go ahead and close it anyway, unless you're happy to allow 'donations'.
