ok im currently on my break, i work as a nurse in a very busy intensive care unit. today im able to sit down and get a decent break, but this is very unusual for me. so i ask you, dietry wise what can iget into me that is nutritious, quick to eat or drink and going to help me last 12 hours?

im even considering those little protien drinks/sachets that endurance runners/cyclists use.

im fed up of going 12 hours on near to nothing.

water ,fruit, natural yoghurt , sandwichs made with wholegrain bread ,wholegrain pasta with tuna ,chicken?

im fairly good, we only have decaf coffee here, though most of the girls dont know this. i like my orange juice and water too much anyhow.

I used to make pasta salad when I did 10 hour night shifts, it's fairly easy to make at home and you can put in anything you want.

On my night shifts, we used to cook for each other.
Was never rubbish. Usually a curry, Chicken meals - Proper meals.

This was found to not be too good as you are eating at wrong times.

We tend to go for soups, sannies and that.

(its the sweets and quick micro meals i need to get out the way)

Ill be taking pointers from this topic

you want carbs if you want slow release food that will give you energy throughout the day.

protein food is more burst energy so you would get tired more easily

Chicken, will make you feel less hungry and stop you eating as much crap.

Preferably a chicken salad.

but chicken is full of protein not carbs , so it needs pasta , rice or potato salad really alone it wouldnt do him any good so kfc is out of the question etc :P

there was a program on once where they gave atheletes carb and protein diets the protein guys were half dead while the carb guys kept on going for ages

im good with ideas on propper meals, im talking a 5 minute meal to eat. this is all i get at times. what could i have prepared for a 5 minute meal break that will keep me going? is there a carbs bar, not a liquid preferably as ive tried warm soup and im hungry again in 2 hours.

keep a big box of pasta salad and eat what you can in those 5 minutes, next break do the same

its also better to eat small amounts more frequently

ok, i am trying to get this accross, this may be my only break, consisting of 5 mins. i cant graze like your suggesting. i really wish i could.

Did you not read my post? Make pasta salad at home and bring it in.

Buy Fresh fruit & peel & dice it & make up your Own tubs to take into work. Take in 2 Yoghurts. Open lid, Sling yoghurt on, Yam down in five mins, JD.

i did vixen, and alas this is my current plan of action, but im still getting hungry, sorry for the off sounding reply.
