diet advice whilst on 13 hour shifts.

Am off till Friday 11pm but my body doesn't know that yet :D I don't care though I am just pleased to have enough time off to properly recover.

They Bork everything, Food, Pooping & your sleep & then on top of that they put you on a different time zone to all your friends & family so you end up seeing Nobody :(
Even though I am off I had to crap at 1.15am, Eat a Huge meal at 1.35 & now am ready to do the Delivery :p

Well I only got took on about 5 weeks ago & am on permanent nights, Prior to Xmas it was 5 nights which sucked as you only actually get One clear day off, Now after crimbo & untold people have been layed off I am on just Four nights which is Wonderful. I do Friday, Sat, Sun & Monday night finishing at 8am Monday morning & not having to be back till 11pm Friday
I can have a Proper life & work :)

I see... I do a combination of days and nights... for instance, I'm on four nights now, have three days off (thats only really two when ya consider I dont get home til 7.15am on the first day off), then back in for three day shifts... then three off again and back for three nights...

my official break is 2 30 mminute breaks but i am in charge of a huge and extremely busy intensive care unit. so i actually only get about 5 mins for food intake. im intrigued though at what you where going to suggest.

Yeah that's defiantly not long enough :p

My usual meal when drunk/starving is...

Frying pan fill about half full with water, add roughly chopped onions (2-3) cook until soft so about 10-20 mins topping up the water as necessary to stop em burning (add large amounts of butter at the start too lots of butter).

Get a few rashers of bacon and cut the fat off and then chop the fat finely add it to the to onions (a few minutes in so it cooks with the onions for a while). when you;ve got a few minutes left chop the bacon up and add that so it cooks in a little of the water and the onions.

Chop/grate some cheese and add that along with a little milk (I've just tried this with double cream and it's even better) add that in and once it;s melted it's done ;d

Depending how long you cook the onions (how soft you like them) it can take from 20 mins to 1/half hours to cook :p

Amazing comfort food with bread although it is pretty much guaranteed to make you fall asleep :D

tefal the topic starter also mentioned its needs to be diet food meaning cheese , bacon and large amounts of butter isnt realy an option ;)

No he doesn't he doesn't mention anything other than "diet/dietary" which i understand to just mean food.

Diet just means your food not low fat garbage.

You could make this at home then nuke it and eat it at work. It fills you u more than pollyfiller. But if you're tired yeh it will lay you out :p

After just eating a large bowl of this I now feel pregnant and Am off to bed, even though I've only been awake 8 hours to day after 13 hours sleep. See you all tomorrow afternoon :(

But congrats in doing a difficult and often thankless job, if it weren't for people like you I wouldn't be here now, so keep up the good work :)

Take milk + oats to work!

Buy a protien shaker and take it to work!

You can get like 300g of carbs, 30gs of protien and how ever much fat you want in a shaker!! (more protien if you add whey)

Can also flavour it with nesquick if you want :p and grind down oats if you find them too hard to drink/eat

If you only get a 5 minute break, the only option is to pre-prepare something. Nice quality wholemeal bread, fill it with salad, turkey or chicken breast, or roast beef or ham or any kind of meat or eggs. Cold pasta salad is also a good choice, or potato salad. A drink shaker with milk & oats would be fine for between meals (as it were).

12 hours with nothing to eat ? you're crazy

hmm, trust me im not liking the reality that is one meal break for 13 hours. but yesterday i tried eating pasta for breakfast, i lasted til 12 lunchtime and then had more pasta in my 5 minute break. actually felt better, had been having sarnies up until now and it just wasnt keeping me filled or i was serioudly getting low blood sugars in the afternoon.

so pasta for breakfast on work days it is!

oh and those power shake thingies sound like a cracking idea. but alas i tried one and neerly gagged on the oats, not nice at all!

Have you tried the Nourishment drinks they are like thick shakes, They are lovely & contain Untold of your RDA, They come in all sorts of regular flavours like Banana, Strawberry & Vanilla & they also do funky ones like Pina calarda :D

What about something like porridge? It doesn't all taste awful; I quite like the Quakers syrup ones, you could always chuck something like a banana in too for extra kick - only takes 2.5mins in the micro.
