BOy of four shoots babysitter

Yet another example of why civillians shouldn't have guns.

You mean another example of why americans shouldnt have guns?

Not everyone who has a gun is irrisponsible with it. I owned 2 shotguns and a rimfire for nearly 3 years as I partook in certain target and field sports.

So from what you are saying there are no responsible Americans on a par with you?

At the end of the day (and this is a blatent sweeping generalisation - I know) guns are made for one purpose - to kill people. Or in some cases animals.

As such they shouldn't be in the hands of civillians because of Dunblane, Hungerford, Columbine and now a 4 year old kiddie.

I would see low-powered (< 12 foot pound) air rifles as being a reasonable exception to this and well suited to sports shooting.

yet another example of why a stupid person shouldnt own a gun or have kids.

most people realise 4 year olds are actually very smart and very capable, most people dont have guns where a small child can reach them and they generally have the ammo hidden away somewhere out of reach aswell.

Does this mean I should give up archery as a bow doesn't really have any other use bar killing (oh and target shooting, but you seem to discount that as legitimate for guns too)?

Precisely. If the gun was locked away, no problem.

Meh, stupid parents unable to teach their kids or secure the weapon. had their not been a gun surely the kid could have gotten a kitchen knife and stabbed the guy, or tried to, at which point you'd realise its nothing to do with the gun, but about the personality of the child and how he wasn't taught right from wrong.

Thats where the responsibility begins and ends, a well taught kid that knows right from wrong wouldn't do such a thing, he could have dropped a lamp on the guys head, stabbed him, shot him, tripped him over thrown something at him done really anything. The method is NEVER the problem, its the choice someone makes to hurt someone else.

Then theres always the fact the story isn't complete, maybe the kid was angry because the babysitter was molesting him, who the hell knows. The weapon of choice isn't the discussion though, its always WHY and not HOW. How doesn't remotely matter, "but if they didn't have a gun" it would have been a stabbing, "but if they didn't have knives" it would have been a spork in the thigh, "but if they didn't have any kind of utensils" he would have pushed him down the stairs "but what if they lived in a bungalow" he would have tripped him over under the garage door then used the remote to decapitate him by lowering the door.

People who blame the tool are ignorant.
