Hi

I know that looking at screenshots even if they are top quality
one's is no way to test a tv's PQ, but ive been looking at many xbox 360 and ps3 screenshots on the pioneer kuro plasma's and PQ was absolutely stunning,
unfortunately i cant afford one of those babies the best plasma i can afford is the panasonic 42PZ80 to use for X360/PS3 gaming & blu-ray/dvd viewing.

What i would like to know is does anyone own or has seen either of these plasma's in action if so what are the differences in PQ?

Thankyou

I had the same choice a few months ago - finally opted for the 5090, and its definitely worth the extra money imo, saying that I wouldnt spend the extra NOW given the financial climate

-Ad- will know. I think he's had a PZ and a couple of Kuros.

Not had a PZ, but had one reserved in a department store, but then everything changed when I saw the 42 Kuro. Then the new 9G changed everything again. Damn tv sets :D

I will obviously say get a kuro if you can, but as you have said that you can't afford one, then the panny is probably the next best to go for. An LCD might be advisable if you are a hardcore gamer playing the same game everyday for weeks and/or careless about leeaving things on pause for long periods of time. But otherwise the PZ is a very very good screen in the realm of commercial tvs, and pretty darn good value now.

Briefly, even last years 8G Kuros (now discontinued and only available 2nd hand if lucky) still show up the latest PZ80,85,800 panasonicsand make them look quite ordinary, and the latest Pio 5090 for example improves further on the 8G, especially with less PWM noise, but mainly with its pretty much perfectly black blacks and brighter whites. But to see the differences the tvs would all have to be setup correctly and in a darkish room.

Get the PZ if you want a great all round set which is great for HD films, games, and maybe the odd spot of tv. And also how big is the room and far will you sit from the set? I only ask as going for a tv which you think is a bit big is a better idea, as with time they shrink as you get used to them :D

Ye I now wish I got at least a 46" pref 50"
my viewing distance is 3 metres\10 feet\118 inches
If that is your viewing distance then get minimum of 46"
I say this because trying to read 1080p text on the PS3 I have to really squint to see it and move forward a bit

I reckon the 'zone' for 42" 1080p viewing distance is between 1.5 - 2.3 metres away

as with time they shrink as you get used to them :D

Yeah no ****!!

Even though I'm sat approx 6 feet away my 40" LCD is lookin a bit small nowadays. Pulling myself forward a bit to give the illusion of a bigger TV atm :D

Would you say that 46" PZ is ideal for the viewing distance or worth getting the 50?

Im about 8ft away from my 5090 and for BR viewing thats about ideal I would suggest - as for PS3 with text, I usually lay around 4 ft away from my bedroom 40" Samsung lcd for gaming (but then I have issues with my eyes/txt anyway)

In about 2 1/2 years I have gone from a 720p 32" LCD for 9 months to the Samsung above which lasted about a year to the Pio 5090 in the last 6 months.........ALL upgraded because they started appearing too ***** small hahahaha, this "hobby" is getting too expensive (as soon as I move into a permanent place of residence Im going to HAVE to have a projector set up for this very reason)

Hmmm I would probably say 46 at 6ft. Just sat 6ft away frolm my 50 and it does look massive, and even good quality SD feed looks worse than if you were sat further back (im at 9ft and it's perfect). But for HD at 6ft it would be stunning !!!!!!!!

Actually forget viewing distance and the other half factor, just get a massive 50 :D:D:D

Another vote for the Kuro, I demo'd them both before buying the Panny, just couldnt afford the Kuro at the time. I would also get the 50" if you can. when I first saw it i ruled it out because I thought it would just look daft in the house, so I bought the 42", a year on im now wishing I bought the bigger set.

The Kuro is better but it's so much more expensive. Nothing else beats the Panasonic though. And considering you can get the 50" Panny for almost half the cost of the Kuro I would probably go for that. Unless you've got a mega budget.

I'd *love* a Kuro but just don't watch/play enough stuff to justify it tbh! If I find the 50PZ for £900ish inc 5yr warranty I'm snapping one up

Give up more social life then. Saves you money thus you can get a Kuro :D

I'm not biased at all :p
