Drinking blackouts

I've only ever had one near-drinking blackout. More of a 'how did I get here' scenario. When I was a bit younger, I bought a bottle of flavoured vodka and was happily drinking that with mates in the park.

I got home and my brother was up watching TV. I had a chat with him and then crashed out. I woke up, went to the bathroom, undid my fly and starting urinating into the toilet bowl. - I then really woke up to find I was on the floor in the bathroom, with blood coming out near my eye and I was urinating myself.

Obviously the bit from me getting from the sofa to the bathroom is a mystery....

I've only lost my memory of an night once, and it wasn't permanent, as I can remember it now. A lot of the stuff that people said I was doing strangely was due to thoughts that were fairly rational, really ... 'He he, we saw you walk one way and then stop for a minute and walk in a different direction' ... 'Yes, it was a night with a lunar eclispe and I thought I'd go and see it. Half way there, I figured I was really too drunk to do anything of the sort and went to bed.'

Have to say that since then I've never drunk as much, though. Sort of lost its appeal.

It's one of the reasons I slowed my drinking right down - I was blacking out like every time I drank. Stopped completely for a while and now I'm ok. It's really scary when you just wake up, though, like "what the crap did I do?!"

Elaborate.

below

That's not what the shakes are dumbass. The shakes are when your nervous system si that ****ed up it's like that all the time you don't have a blood alcohol level.

hence why i said the morning after.

I don't drink (I have done in the past, i.e. when I was at Uni) - does that mean I've now become untrustworthy?

Sounds like BS to me! ;)

well i wont trust anyone until ive seen them absolutely smashed atleast twice, because when your drunk you dont really lie, not because you cant, and many times people tell you things they normally wouldnt etc etc...

im thinking they think if they get too drunk some info may slip, so they remain sober. obviously not everyone, i just wouldnt trust you until we are absolutely smashed and you begin telling me about this chick you couldnt bang because you were soo drunk... thats honesty!

that doesn't make any sense, as a alcoholic has a physical dependency on alcohol due to it;s effects on the nervous system (and others things). If they don;t have a physical need then they arn't physically addicted and as such not an alcoholic.

A true alcoholic would be risking death by going cold turkey for a month.

all addiction is simply in the mind, when your depressed you drink (for example)

people who write things about physical dependency all the time have no idea, and it is you!

Staropramen? It seems a bit of a waste if you're just drinking that fine drink just to get drunk, I'm sure after the first four or five pints you could change to Carling and probably wouldn't notice the difference plus it would be cheaper.

thats true but staropramen is stronger, and carling is weaker, and 1% does make a diff, and the price is like 50p cheaper so thats no point.

I tend to go through periods of blackouts, just recently i've had a fair few and I put it down to:

1) how much i drink
2) if I smoke or not
3) how often i'm drinking

All I do is just calm my drinking down a bit and im fine, I try not to go mad on a night out and something which helps loads is a pint of water or two halfway/two thirds through the night. Seems to just keep my brain on the level, or as much as it can be on a bender! haha. I'm pretty bad for drinking anyway, i've just got a taste for the stuff I think.

Some of the worst blackouts i've had is from pre-lashing hard at the flat and then not even remembering which club we went to :(

Some of the best blackouts are just not remembering the taxi back/leaving the club and I think those are just due to tiredness/drink catching up on me at the end of the night.

I'm usually pretty good even when i'm in blackout mode, I get a bit more excited and my eyes usually go a bit droopey but thats just the normal drink look haha, but I don't go mad or do anything daft.

I think the water tip here is the key, give it a go!

I'm worried about how many people have blackouts on here :(

But what about those of us who don't drink, don't you trust us total t's? :)
Not that I'd ever really get to know you that well in real life, I just don't drink.

I've just had bad things happen to people around me because of alcohol and I don't want to lower myself to that level that I'd drink so much and get completely plastered and start to have blackouts because I am diluting my bodies natural fluids with water and alcohol. I don't need to go into details about it.

Only ever had one, last Hallowe'en.

Yeah. Apparently I was running down my road after a mate screaming 'Give my me rum back!'. Dressed as Jack Sparrow... Yeah. And various other antics. Yeah. After that I stopped drinking for two months 'cause I just wasn't proud of it, and it's scary not knowing what you've done.

Plus, if you can't remember the party, where's the fun? All I know of was tidying the godawful mess my house was the next day.

Then you're getting ripped off for Carling I'd suggest, it's a poor substitute for a lager but my point was simply that if you're only drinking to get drunk then you're largely wasting your time with something that tastes good (and costs more) when you won't be tasting it. There is a vague argument about purity of alcohol and hangovers but it's somewhat dubious in my experience.

i can taste fine, if ive had 1 drink or 15, beer is just something to drink while your sitting, i dont get drunk on just beer, i order 1 shot for each beer minimum.

but anyway i mix my drinks heavily, dont just drink the same drink over and over, thats boooring.

I think the general, "I got so drunk last night I don't remember what happened" thing happens quite reguarly.

Although there are different degrees of what you dont remember... most weekends I remember up to a certain point of the evening, or start remembering it a few days (or weeks later).

I'm surprised at the amount of people that don't have blackouts it's all just part and parcel of heavy drinking. I go out almost every Friday and Saturday and next to never remember the last 3 or 4 hours or so. I could drink less if I wanted to but I don't.

I'm confused. By blackout you mean a large chunk of your evening appears to go missing, as opposed to actually passing out?

I've had similar things happen, but not on such a grand scale. Sometimes several minutes of my night go missing, like on the walk home, or I forget I've bumped into certain people throughout the night. Forgetting what you say is never good. Probaly the dark side to drinking. Drink less, enjoy yourself more!

Blackout in this thread is referring to the entire night, or the night starting from the moment the heavy drinking kicked in, which is the point you usually remember up to. Blackout as in you could have said anything, done anything, no matter now terrible, and you wouldn't know about it.

I got so burst on NYE, I woke up without eyebrows! And a bit of chicken in my ear. I supposedly pulled a hottie though, doesn't really matter if I can't remember it though.

I wonder how many people share this odd viewpoint? I ask because some freinds that I don't know so well are quite keen to get me drinking and I don't know if this is typical "peer pressure" type stuff or this

My long time freinds arn't like this, they have known me from well before we were old enough to be drinking and are not pushy at all. I have been properly drunk at a freinds house just once, Never had any blackout/memory loss though, thats frankly concerning :/
