Roll your characters on Laurelin, it's the English RP server. I actually re-rolled from Evernight to this server, the community is outstanding.

About the horse, if memory serves you normally don't get a horse until level 35. I think the special edition gives you one earlier, it might be from 15. It's slower than the normal one, but still a damn sight quicker than walking. There's probably an item in your inventory for it.

Snowbourn is another server to consider with an exceptional community and highly populated.

I can't remember if it's 20 or 25 that you can use the free pony but it's not as fast as a normal mount which is available from 35 as stated by Sleepery.

the free horse you can use straight away, i purchased the gold edition purposely for this and it is slower than a level 35 horse

Nope free horse/pony is lvl 25!!! Its way slower than normal horse that u can buy at lvl 35 (+50% run speed).
If you roll hunter its almost not worth using the free horse unless u gonna ride longer distance as hunter got +15% run skill and free horse is ~20% iirc.
Still nice if u any other class tho.
Have fun.

agree with last post, I almost got it for alts but you'll find level 25-35 mostly is northdowns with a few ride points, if you have a hunter ride you around to grab other connecting ride points you can keep buying rides and jumping off midway to get to things, porting back to house/town/racial ports if you want to help get around.

Its not worth buying the gold edition for but a kick in the teeth as the American's got it free for being loyal customers, we didn't, because Codemaster(who don't do the US side) are tight gits and saw the chance to sell a few extra copies :(

The community is really what you make of it. Evernight had its share of crappy kins, as do the others i'm sure, keep trying some till you find a group of people you like, or run around solo, whatever you fancy.

Hunters are probably best starter characters for porting/run speed, cash gathering and the likes, explorer is your best bet for crafting as its got two gathering crafts so you can sell bits and bobs on the AH, buy some armour/weapons along the way.

It's still updating :/

So the pony is from the off ? and I have no idea which server I'll decide to roll onto.

ive just remembered know that the pony/horse you can only use from level 25, but its still a good thing to have if your any class other than a hunter

I already have an LOTRO account dorment somewhere with an elf champion level26 I think.

First, am I gimped as an elf champion? (ie isn't it the crappier champion possible?)
Second, how is the leveling speed? Is it quite fast or will I have to play for 2 years to get max level.
Third, should I get the expansion if I'm not level max?
Fourth, Anyone could tell me what class is ok at solo leveling (I'll be solo most of the time, might look for a kin) but is still looked for groups?
Fifth, Are there much people still in the leveling or is the majority max level ?

1. Not sure about the Elf Champion - never played one but I tend to see more Dwarves champs then anything else on my server (EU Snowbourn)

2. Levelling is fairly quick. You'd probably level up from 1-50 in about 3 months with just average gameplay time.

3. If you want to play one of the new class (Runekeeper or Warden) then yes get the expansion but otherwise no as Moria mainly caters for the 48+ crowd.

4. All the classes are viable for solo gameplay - best probably being Hunter & Burg. To ensure your in a fellowship then it's always going to be a Minstrel altho I've never found getting in groups a problem with my main - 53 Hunter.

5. Since the expansion was released there's been a lot of new players and a lot of old ones trying out the new classes so the lower areas are highly populated but again that's dependant on the server you choose.

Hope this helps!

I've been levelling up on Laurelin, main is 26 at the moment, and there's absolutely no shortage of groups on the go, it's very busy.

After much though I'm going to re-subscribe as soon as the download is finished :p

I already have a char on the snowbourn server, is that server alright population wise or should I move?

I don't really know which class I'll be rolling, maybe a loremaster or burglar not too sure.
Any advice?

from my experience i'd have to say roll on Laurelin, i had my mains on Snowbourn since beta and moved them over , i got fed up of the idiots (not everyone) and the PvP was truly awful.

a few of us from Snowy have started a small Kinship whilst we level new char's so feel free to contact me if you join Laurelin , current alts name 'tyga' and i'll try and help you with the basics.

also since Mines of Moria was released a lot of the early content such as Epic Quests have been changed, or shall we say dumbed down so its a lot easier to level up.
