Well that's everything ordered now.
3x Anthony Gallo Micro Speakers (2x rear, 1x center), pair of AG Speaker stands (for the rears), BK Gemini subwoofer and 35m of speaker cable (for rear speakers).

Last month i only got the Sony DSG820 so that i could improve my sound quality. Then i got persuaded by you guys to get a center or a subwoofer and then you guys convinced me to complete the set by getting the rears. So £860 later my audio configuration is complete and i will finally have a 5.1 HD system.

All in all i've spent £1,500 on my audio setup now. Cant wait to have it all setup so i can enjoy some surround surround goodness :)

lol, before you know it you'll be thinking should I get another 2 speakers for the full 7.1 sound ;)

I was going to get the XLS200 but after reading countless threads over at AVForums regarding the Gemini & XLS200, i came to the conclusion that the Gemini will do me just fine.

Plus the smaller dimensions of the Gemini suited me better as i am limited in space.

I should get it by Friday so i'll let you know how it sounds.

Look what arrived today :D









Build quality is excellent and they look damn good aswell. They are heavier than i thought they would be but that's a good thing i suppose. The matching speaker stands are nice aswell with nice cable hiding feature.
Not sure if i should leave the grills on or not.......

Just waiting for the speaker cables and subwoofer now.

Now you've got the Gallos, the most important question is does it fit in the front like you asked?
 
Let us know what you think of them once up and running. I'm thinking of the Orbs which are very similar in style and performance :)
 
Well the speaker cables came and i got it all hooked up (apart from subwoofer).
However, there is lack of a surround affect to be honest with you. The rear speakers are not loud at all. They are very faint when watching 5.1 movies.

I think i need to configure my DSG820 amp properly but so far im not having any luck.

Did your amp come with a setup mic that plugs into the amp. I thought your model did. If it has plug it in. Put the mic at ear level where you would be sitting. Make sure it's quiet then run the setup wizard.

If it doesn't have a mic then you have 2 options.

1: use your ear and run the test tones across all speakers and balance them as best you can. boosting the levels of the quiet speakers so that you have a constant sound level across all 5 speakers.

2: buy a spl metre. I bought one to set up my avr280 because it didn't come with a mic. With this you can run the test tones to get each channel spot on. I did it and I was quite a bit off what I had set it up just using my ears. The next step is to hook the spl metre to my laptop and run REW to get everything perfect.

Thanks for that. I managed to tweak the levels for the rear speakers and i added a notch for the center also.

Managed to exactly measure the distances from the listening position to all the speakers and input that in to the amp and now it sounds a lot better.

I've set all the speakers to large for the time being until my sub arrives. Then i will change the rears and center to "Small" and probably set the cross over freq. to 100Hz/120Hz. Good idea?

I think at the moment the Front Left and Right (Kef's) are a bit too dominant so i'll have to have a play with them. Hopefully when the sub arrives they will no longer handle the deep bass.

Levels for speakers at the moment:

FL +0
FR +0
Center +2
RL +8
RR +8

Distances:

FL 3.5m
FR 3.5m
Center 3.5m
RL 1.0m
RR 1.3m

Speakers all set to LARGE
 
Those rear levels seem a bit high. Is that setup by your ear or by a spl metre?

Also once you get the sub all speakers should be set to small. I don't know of many speakers capable of delivering the low frequencys of movie audio. You are best off leaving that to your sub rather that swamping your fronts.

I have my crossover set to 80. You don't want it set to high. Subs are only good for the low stuff. Check your speaker stats. See how low they go and set it a bit above that as speaker companys can sometimes be a little optimistic with their products. So if yours go to 70 try it to 80.

It's all about trial and error. You can download free signals of varying frequencies and even sweeps that go hi to low. You can use this to try and get things spot on. A good starting point is a DVD with thx optimiser on. All the pixar ones have it. So nice simple tests to help you get it right.

thing is, if you look at 80-90% of all home setups, thats exactly where the centre speaker is. Mine is just below the tv which is around 12-18" below the L/R channels. Sounds find to me!
 
RE the gallo's....which one's did you go for? Did you go for the Ti's? How much did you pay?

the more i look at my quad l-ites on the wall, the more i think they are too big! I think i fancy a change already!
