Any 3D Artists in here?

Some very very nice work on here... I took a class when I was in school doing 3D models - We made a duck and a flashlight.. it was a lot of fun.

Nice work!

Here's a couple of the last things we've done..

Apologies for the watermark, they were used in the promotion. I did all the modelling, textures by my texture artist (obviously, lol)

Some very impressive work on here.

I've been learning Maya for a few weeks now. Did a couple of weeks worth a while back but then had a busy period.

I've worked through the first few tutorials on 3dbuzz (Modeling AT-ST through to Character Modeling), however the videos seemed to have changed slightly; they seem to rush through things a bit more and are only describing techniques applicable to their models, not really giving tips on universal usages anymore (imo of course).

Anyone have any more free video tutorial sites? (I'm really only interested in modeling now, animation will come much later)

I think I'm nearly ready to go off and start modeling on my own but if I do that now I feel I will miss out on many techniques and tools that will be useful in the future. The program is so complex I just can't see how you can teach yourself when there are so many thousands of functions.

Also, I seem to see a lot more tutorials for 3DS compared to Maya, have I just been unlucky with my googling or is this actually the case? If so why?

Thanks.

The Maya at-st is more aimed for people who know what there doing, if you really want to learn Maya get the Maya fundamentals dvd as they explain everything in that, then get the advanced modelling dvd zak covers every modelling tool in the program.

Oops my bad, I havn't done the AT-ST, I read that wrong. I would like to get the dvd but I can't afford it atm so I'm after something free.

Not really came across many good free maya videos, could try www.simplymaya.com they have a free section.

Once you learn the tools you can do most tutorials for modelling regardless of program as they mostly do the same stuff just in different ways so its just a case of adapting to your app.

Heres a good one, how to model by a 7 year old :)

wow thats a really smart 7 year old not only to do it but make a tutorial too!

Not a patch on some of the stuff in here but thought I'd contribute.

My first ever solo piece in Maya, spent a few days looking through video tutorials and got a bit bored so I thought I'd have a bash at something!

Quite pleased really. Haven't got a clue how to do the texturing and lighting hence the bland looking images. I think the pieces are pretty good apart from the knights, I definately can't 'freeform' shapes like that yet!
