Who has SKY HD+?

I find the HD movie channels a little disappointing now as they seem to of reduced the quality from when I first got it, it's only really as good as SD-DVDs on the projector. It's probably fine on a TV up to 40" though, which I guess is their main market for SkyHD, and it's great having them in 5.1.

Sports HD, in particular the footy, is still really good and the SD channels are definitely better from the HD box than with the old SD sky box.

Heard about the lip sync problem, and looked at a variety of boxes. THe samsungs seem to be the ones to avoid, pace seem ok, and new amstrads are out too.

Will ring my parents tonight and demand they get it :D:D:D

Remember that if buying from Sky you have no choice on the box you get.
The Samsung box is absolutely fine - its only problem is that it is picky about which Hard Drive you use if you are planning on doing a hard drive upgrade.
Whereas the Pace box will take more or less anything, the Samsung box wants certain Seagate units.

The sports is the best part of it IMO.

I wouldn't bother though if you're not a Sports fan, at least until they expand the channel list a bit.

But for the Hardware alone its worth it over sky + right?

I mean both are 49 quid with 15 quid fee.

Might as well get the 300GB HDD ?

Unless Sky drop the £10 a month, I will hold out till they do as my Sky bill is big enough. Anyhow, I use a motorised dish so I get plenty of HD channels (sports/movies) from across europe to keep me happy and its free. :)

Retarded question but why dont they on the HD boxes make Sky1HD 106 and the SD channel the random number instead of having to remember where the HD channel is?

I rang Sky about 3 times over a 4 week period enquiring about Sky+HD. First 2 times I was offered £75 + £30. 3rd time I rang and said "What can you do HD for?" The chap came straight out with £49 + £15. Seems it might be who you speak to on the day.

Although it is a larger hard drive, HD recording uses a lot more space. I recorded Doctor Who at the Proms on Sunday. It recorded for 64 mins and used 7% of hd space.

It's worth it for the hardware but dont forget you have the extra £10 per month charge for the HD mix on top as well which you may not think is worthwhile if you dont have sports/movies. The less you have in your package, the less worthwhile the £10pm is for HD mix

Yeah,

I see what you mean.

Its the Credit Crunch and I am not desperate to have it. (my cinema room is not finished yet!)

Will bide my time. They have offered me it at that price so will ring back in a few weeks.

If it's the same then you may as well go for it. I assume the offer isn't the same unless you take the extra tenner a month for 12/18 months?

I can safely say that for Sky Sports, it's well worth the tenner. The difference in quality for someone like me is quite astounding, and I can easily see the difference between it and the same SD channel.

The reason I said what I said above is that i'm not a big movies buff (this might well make a difference) and I find the lineup bar sports/movies quite pitiful. This might well improve when ITV finally cave with HD though, and also the Beeb start putting some decent stuff on their HD channel (I think F1 will be?). :)

is there a way to rearrange the sky channels? like on the virgin box? i know what i watch, i want to just cruise through those channels and also move sky sport 3 hd near the other 2, its currently miles away!

I don't think there is. I remember a thread about a new Sky+ HD browser in the works though, not sure what happened to that idea.

So tempted to upgarde my SKY+ to HD , £99 for the box is fine with me but the £60 instalation cost is what gets my goat .

1. PAY YOUR MONEY ON LINE
2. WAIT SIX WEEKS
3. MAN COMES ROUND WITH HD BOX UNDER ARM
2. KNOCKS ON YOUR DOOR EXPECTS CUP OF TEA
3. GETS ON KNEES
4. UNLUGGS OLD SKY+BOX
3. PLUGS IN SKY HD BOX
4. HITS AUTO TUNE
5. LEAVES

I would feel raped in my own home .

Anyone managed to get round the £60 instalation charge and if so how ?

Get through to retentions.

Say the package is costing you too much, you now have a new HDTV and are watching lots of blu-rays, plus the no monthly subscription of FREESAT is really tempting you away.

Haggle with them and I have heard of people getting it down to £49 all in, but to be honest getting it down to a £70 upgrade would suit me. Will be trying this in a week or so when back at my parents.

I have had it for about 4 months and the £10 a month charge is nothing for the amount of HD movies available, there are loads. Some much better PQ than others but when you have a 42"+ screen you do need it as buying blu-ray films all the time costs a fortune, it really isnt that expensive imo just needs a bigger HD and i am to wary to do it myself.
