Protest march against Israeli terrorism

They are both as bad as each other, although im my opinion Isreal has gone in way to heavy handed (as usual).

That was my point earlier. It is usual for them to go in heavy-handed. So surely that was the response Hamas expected when firing rockets at them?!

Is that something you know for fact or just assuming?

I am just guessing. If I was being bombed into next week the fact that somebody was doing a pointless protest in a country far away probably wouldn't make me feel any better about it.

What about you? Do you really think that the people of Gaza are going to have a warm fuzzy feeling about this march? Who exactly is going to care enough to report it to them?

Or is it more a little bit of self indulgence so that those going can say "Yeah! I made a difference!"?

BBC video journalist Andrew Herbert is the first international journalist to enter Gaza since the Israeli offensive began.

He filmed this material while embedded with the Givati infantry unit of the Israeli Defence Forces.

You were saying...?

Without trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist that is one Journalist who will be told exactly where he can and can't go. Perfect for the Israeli army as they can show him what they want and keep him away from the questionable areas.

I very much doubt he can go anywhere he wants with them, it will be a case of "look at what these evil arabs have done to to our soldiers!" as he gets taken to see an Israeli solider shot. Then "Can we stop here? I want to talk with these Palastinians.".. "No sorry, it's too dangerous and we're in a rush!"...

I know there are issues with letting journalists crawl over a war zone but most will know the dangers and will probably have been in the same situation lots of times. The bigger pain is letting them wonder round and see what is really going on, and all news agencies can say when reporting the news is "apparently" and "according to", which can be nicely shot down by people who don't want to believe the Israelis are "capable" of it. Not to say all of the apparentlies are actualities.

The phrase 'a few good people' springs to mind. You may sit on the fence on this side, somebody may sit on the other side all in the name of hate.

What about the good people on both sides, they will stand to protect the innocents on both sides :)

Quoted for truth! My thoughts exactly...:)

True, but if it is the only way of retalliating and making the world take note then tht's all they can do. If you only had a few homemade rockets and some machine guns what would you do when you were onfronted by batallions of tanks and armoured cars with guided missiles?

I'm not saying it's right, but I can see why they have done it.

Do you really think if Hamas had stopped missile strikes and gone to the Israelis "we've kept our side of the ceasefire, now keep yours" the Israelis would have gone "Ah, fine, we'll open the borders for you. :)"?

News reports care more about shock explosions than gradual starvation and death due to lack of medicine caused by notlifting a baracade.

I share your skepticism. However, I do have hopes that this guy will be able to show the real story.

It's something of a moot point anyway. We all know that the fight is one-sided and Israel is using disproportionate overwhelming force; we don't need a BBC reporter to tell us that.

(If this is against the rules please delete)

Stop the War coalition along with other have organised a protest march for this weekend:

Demonstrate Saturday 10 January: Stop the Massacre : Israel Out of Gaza

Assemble 12.30pm Speakers Corner, Hyde Park

March to Israeli Embassy, Kensington High Street, London W8

760 dead, 3000 injured. Food running out, no electricity for one million people, no water for 750,000. The town of Rafah raised to the ground. You can make a difference. Join the demonstration and add your voice to the millions around the world who say this barbarism must stop.
You can make a difference. This barbarism must stop. Join the demonstration.

So, the protest is only against Israel? What about the atrocities of Hamas? Or are they okay because they're Muslim?

Can you please answer this question? Instead of avoiding it. "Leave it for the other threads." If this was really a valid excuse, you'd have posted this in those threads instead of clogging up the board with rubbish like this. So, you're excusivelly protesting against Israel? And ignoring Palestine? Why?

I hope that too, but in reality when travelling with one sides forces the news reported will always be bias, it takes a special kind of person to implicate yourself.:(

It's no surprise that Hamas fire rockets at them with all the things that the Israeli's do to them the conveniently are never reported. Whilst I don't condone war or killing for any reason, the poor Palestinan people are so dreadfully oppressed they have no hope and are not being given a fair chance in any way shape or form from the west and whilst the west has their backs turned, Israel will take over a little bit more land, or destroy a couple of Palestinan villages, and then when patience runs out suddenly Hamas strikes back and conveniently the west is there to see only what they want to see. It's rather simplified but that is in essence what happens.

And it's convenient that you seem to forget why Israel is the way it is. Yes the walls and checkpoints make life unbearable for the Palestinians, but perhaps in Hamas and their buddies didn't go around blasting Israelis to high heaven with suicide bombs then perhaps they wouldn't be necessary. The simple fact remains that prior to the latest Intifadah, plenty of Israeli's and Palestinians were co-existing in relative peace. Hamas et al have sown the seeds of hate on that land and are now reaping the crop.

Oh and of course Hamas attacks are going to gain a high media presence - they are a terrorist organisation. A terror attack that fails to incite terror has utterly failed, the western media is an extremely useful tool for terrorists.

One important issue that people often overlook is that the Arabs (including Palestinians) were attacking Israel long before the Palestinians were being abused.

The "they were driven to terrorism because they were so badly treated" and "they were driven to terrorism because they had no choice" arguments don't really hold water. They also overlook the many oppressed peoples around the world who have suffered just as badly as the Palestinians (and in some cases worse) but never resorted to terrorism.

I suppose all you guys who are against Israel were against us attacking Afghanistan. I don't see how you think they can do anything else apart from be heavy handed. they are being attacked and they are defending themselves.
