Hi there i don't have any spare connections to try both at the same time.

I want to light the pc up with a red cathode, but then have a uv tube to light up cables etc. Can this be done?

Thanks

Damo

They're not really that big, so you really should have room unless you have a super tiny case! The majority of them come on Y-splitter Molex cables, so they don't really take up a connection, if you catch my meaning.

I had a weird problem with my cathode yesterday though; it was on the same line as my GPU, and any time I turned the cathode on or off it would cause my display to go blank and not come back until reboot... that said, I haven't had any problems besides yesterday, and a quick rearrangement of cables fixed it quick enough.

Thanks for the reply. LOL i was half asleep when i typed that. What i meant was will the red cathode and uv tube work together or will they knock each other out.

Oh, ha ha, should've thought that through! My bad. Well when I first read it, I did think it sounded a little strange. But they should'nt cancel each other out, but I'm not sure they'll compliment each other either... the U.V will MULTIPLY all the colours by Ultra-Blue, so colours with none aren't affected, and blue and white are really affected. The cathode will ADD red to everything, so everything will be a bit red, but the really-blue blues will become purple, and the ultra-white whites will become pinkish.

Or at least, that's as far as I can surmise in my own head from the little knowledge I have of the electronic spectrum. To be honest, a red cathode is only a couple quid, and I doubt the U.V is much more. If you've already spent £500+ on a rig, who cares about an extra tenner? You should just try it out! (And maybe post the pics up here for future reference, and my own devilish curiosity!)

EPIC EPIC EPIC FAILURE

Here's my little story.

I have decided i wanted a new case. So i got the same case but in black (full black Thermaltake Armor)

I wanted black case, red inside with with red UV cables. But it looks cack!!!

I have tried lots of red leds all over the place, and it looks rubbish

I have tried red cathodes and they all look pink. I just got some of the net, and they look more red than others, but still orangey. I even brought some florist flower wrap in red (red cellophane) All that does it make the cathode darker, hotter and now orange.

I have tried loads of red UV cables and they all look pink!

I have given up now, its cost me about £30 BUT i had todo it lol.

I have now ripped out the stuff and i am going to do what i originally thought would be good. Blue LED fans, uv tube with green uv cables

EPIC failure lol

lets see some pics!!? lol i've just ordered a UV cathode and a red fan but all of my case fans are blue... its going to be interesting to see how this pans out now you've noticed that problem lol

Red is pretty much the colour that the eye is least receptive to. If you think about red as being at the far left hand side of the electromagnetic spectrum with regards to visible light, with blue/indigo being towards the far right hand end, and are the colours that the eye is most receptive to (if you ever wondered, this is the reason why emergency vehicles have blue lights). Any way as a result for a given amperage etc a true red light will not actually give much illumination (the eye is not as receptive to red wavelengths) To combat this manufactures will often choose a colour close to red but not quite red as it were, which is why they eiter look pinkish, or orangyish (not sure that's a word). When you do find ones that are true red and put them in you often end up with a very unrewarding effect as the case doesn't illumiante all that well.

Hmm, i had these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...&name=Akasa AK-178-BL 12" Cold Cathode - Blue
and it lights up uv cables so i would just go with cathodes. I had two in a L shape to give the best lighting effect.

Wow!!! That is exactly what happened! The red cathodes/led did look red ish. But they didnt light up the case.

I would have taken some photos, and i did but they looked so gay. Could hardly see anything :(

many thanks for not posting "gay" photos lol

DAMO if it would help I can add some photos of my case, it has LEDs that cycle through various combinations and is also fitted with UV so you could see various effects and colour combos. Let me know either way, won't be offended if you're not bothered.

Thank you, looks pretty slick/sick.

im putting my pc into the new case tom. I have never done this before, so i am going to get the pc sorted first. Then mess around with the colours :)

Thanks again :D
