I'm looking to improve this system so i can play blu ray at the best quality i can and wondered if a graphics card upgrade would help?

current spec
intel core 2 duo e6750
Gigabyte P35-DQ6
ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5

Id just get the 4850 1GB if i were you, i have it and its awesome you can always upgrade your cpu down the line and clock it to 3GHZ+ so not to bottleneck your card but until then you have the card.

Blu-ray should play fine on that system...however if you were looking into improving game performance the 4830 would be a large step up though a 4850 would be a better bet as it is nearly twice the performance.

Your 2900 will easily play blu ray at full HD resolution, it's still a fair mid range card even though it has a bad rep for not being as good as an 8800GTX. It traded blows with the 8800GT but used more power and was a hot chip so could get noisy when worked hard.

I don't think a 9800GT (rebadged 8800GT) or a 4830 will be a great leap forwards, and if you only want blu ray then a 2900 will easily cope with that but you may want to consider one of the video enhancers, I think ATI was Avivo and Nvidia was Pure view.

I've used the nvidia one and it helps upscale nicely, not tried the ATI version though I do have an old 2900Pro flashed to XT in my spare system....

I still have a 2900XT (pro with bios flash). It's an ok card still, you need to lower the details a bit for CoD5 though :\

Only other bad thing is it's so damn noisy.

My 8800GT whooped my 2900XT. Even my 8800GTS 640 was better as I liked to use AA in my games.
