Autistic teenager kicked baby in the face

well yes. however if that was the case he'd probably be committed for a period of time.

But he didn;t so it;s a pointless argument s the judgement wouldn't have been the same would it?

Firstly I was asking Jester not you.

Secondly, if the reason for not prosecuting him is because he is autistic and couldn't have a "guilty mind" or whatever the legal terminology is, then surely that must apply no matter what the consequences to the baby?

So the judgement would have to have been the same - no charge - or else the decision to not prosecute is flawed (as I and many other believe).

Jono8 I seriously think your Mum needs to get herself a different job if this is what she thinks of the children shes meant to be helping.

I fail to see your outrage.

thats because you're a nob :D

What's to stop him doing it to again to the next crying baby ,what if it was your baby would you say "oh well never mind"

If the parents or whoever is suppose to be caring for him can't cope then he should be in an mental institution .Also the parents should be prosecuted for failing to control him in a public place .

If you had any understanding of autism, then maybe you wouldn't write such garbage.

and you've never made a joke at someone else's expense have you?

Not when the person is in a progressive decline from Multiple sclerosis, has lost the ability to walk, dysarthric, husband has left because he cannot cope with taking care of her and the newborn, and has no will to live.

well give me some government funding and a physcatrist and then i can go around being an idiot and breaking laws and won't get in any trouble because I am "mentally ill".

You sir are a buffoon. Mental illness is not something to be so flippant about.

Your later posts suggest that the people are just labelled and perfectly normal. I guess you can also read their minds and feel their emotions too?

A mentally ill person can at times cover it up when he's around his friends, but he can never control the way he feels and his mind.

Sit there having a pint with your friends wh you say have some illnesses. I bet it all seems somewhat normal, but believe me that is just for the time your socialising; you have no idea what they go through when they are alone or when they get a mood swing.

Your posts in this thread make you come across as exceedingly insensitive and ignorant.

Or maybe I have Autism...

Ignorrant maybe, but i'm right.

Oh the irony... You are ignorant, and you are wrong.

It truly is a shame that this isn't a thread about somebody stamping on your face. (No sarcasm intended)

Basically, it is the parents/carer/guardians fault (maybe just one of them, maybe all of them combined.)

Some of the attitudes towards mental illness in this thread are frightening. :(

Say a 5 year-old had done this instead of someone with autism. Would you lock them up? Would you knock them out?

its not fair for anyone to complain about the judgement unless they have a knowledge of autism as you dont have the full picture. sudden loud noises to an autistic person does not create the same feeling/reaction as that of a "normal" person.

I am not wrong. That is my opinion and in my eyes I am right.

You are all just idealist saps who think everyone should be equal at birth.

if a 5 year- old, even without autism had done this, it wouldnt even be on the news.

one cool quote i heard someone say when i was on a course was "what you see with an autistic person is not their illness through their eyes, you are seeing how they are dealing with what problems they have"

it was worded slightly better than that but it gets the point across :)
