Legal:How many hours worked before break?

I do an 8 hour shift, get 2 x 15 min breaks and a half hour. Plus a fag break, if I want one.

Why am I leaving this job? :p

i work 12hour shifts.

I get 15min break for fag 2hours into my shift, after 5 hours i get 45minute lunch and then another 15min break after 8 hours, then work the 4 hours without a break.

But we get to go and grab a cup of tea or coffee when ever we want to.

so true, My friends a nurse in the NHS sometimes has 15 hr shifts and is only entitles to a couple of 20 min breaks, its ridiculous

My mums a nurse on night shifts and it's so understaffed on the wards it's unbelievable, the hopsital are constantly ringing up begging her to come in for extra work. At least she gets an hour break half way through.

The 8 hour shifts I work give us one 30min unpaid break, which if I start at 6am would be between 9-10 am and for a 2pm start it'd be between 17:30-18:00.

You can be sneaky and go to more than one if you work a shift which covers that but the rotation I'm on doesn't :(

I get a single 30 minute break in 9 hours. An hour is too long - I'd die from boredom if i had to sit at my desk for that long each day.

Would be nice in the summer though - a trip to the local for a swift pint would be nice, but in the winter I'd curse a break that long.

6 Hours?! So much for health and safety then, people would be collapsing after 6 hours in jobs like nursing.

You think nurses run around none stop or something? Nursing isn't really an exhaustive job (for the most part). You don't do anything to exert yourself really.

I work 8 hours a day and get 30 mins for dinner, plus 2 5-10 min coffee/leg stretch/fag etc break during the day. I agree with Danza, I'd get bored on an hour break, 30 mins is fine for me to go make/get some dinner etc. If I had an hour I'd just find myself walking around town centre for the sake of it for ages.

Most people stop working in environments where you're told when to have a break and when to go to the toilet once they leave Sixth Form, surely? ;) :D

I work 12 hours shifts at a Computer, depending on the time of day and of course what day it is. (I.E. Midnight on a Saturday tends to be a lot busier for our Crews than say a Wednesday, therefore busier in the control room)

But unless it's brain splittingly busy, we get 4 breaks over the 12 hours every 2.5 to 3hrs alternating 30/20 minute breaks.

But the other side of the coin is that the work can get pretty intense esp. if you're getting 999 after 999 coming in within a few miles of each other.

We don't tend to be that formal at work. Everyone starts at 9am - if you wish to finish at 5pm then you have 1/2 hour at 1pm, if you finish at 5:30 you have an hour at 1pm

Usually though it's 9am - 6:30pm or so with an hour break, sometimes much later if the work requires

I can have all the breaks I want outdoors, can take my pick of any cafe I want! :D I bet it sucks being in a office all day.

Doing what? Are the breaks paid or unpaid? If unpaid do you have the option of forgoing them to be paid? What do you do with all that break time, I would get bored!

My two 20min breaks are paid. But my lunch break is unpaid.

the two 20min break just goes on having a bru and reading a newspaper. Lunch break i got out get something to eat and have a smoke.
