Is is common for Nvidia GPU's to make a high pitched noise in some games? Getting it on the GTX 280 (POV) and used to get it on the 8800 - never did or do on any ATI card. What causes it and can it be stopped?
 
From what I remember its capacitor squeal under extreme load and can be caused by fluctuations on the rails from the PSU.

I've had it happen on 260s, 280s, 4870 and 4870x2. Its happened the least on my current PSU to the point of it can only be heard with the case side off, it happened more with a 550w PC P&C silencer and also happened a bit on a Zalman 850w. The Corsair 1000w is doing very nicely.

ok - might see about trying a friends PSU as I'm already on a 1000w one, not as it the rest of my PC is top of the range!
 
Well there goes the tri-sli 280 idea a contrary to what I was told on Friday when I phoned and checked I didn't get the asus card allocated to my order. So cancelled the lot.
 
Are the 280 prices still plummeting ? they must be free by now LOL

I think his point was, 2 8800GT should beat a 280 in the few games that are really well optimized for SLI.
