Which of these cars?

Hello all.

I'm looking around at cars, to replace my 306 D turbo.

I fancy a stylish, reputable a car but I also fancy a car that's pretty nippy.

I have around £2k to spend at the moment, but I may save for the right car.

Anywho, I've drawn up a shortlist and the cars are as follows:

Audi A3 (finding a good example for £2k will be hard work)
Alfa 147 (just seen one on ebay with 65k on the clock, immaculate inside and out go for £2k)
BMW 316i (they all look like chavmobiles)
Peugeot 306 XSi (one on ebay and autotrader for £2k that's 2.0, and has 80k on the clock, really handsome devil though)

I'm 18 and the average insurance is about £300 a month but with any luck I can get that knocked down with a phone call instead of confused.com.

Simply, which of these cars is the best?

Or is there something I've overlooked completely!?

Cheers

It may not be the answer you want mate, but if you save for another year or so, not only will you be able to afford a better car, but the insurance will be much cheaper also.

edit: OMFG 300 A MONTH FOR INSURANCE? ARE YOU MAD?

Thats more than the cars are worth....

£300 a month?

You would be better off spending your money on eastern european escorts in mayfair. They'll be more fun than 1600cc BMW.

You're willing to spend up to £3600 on insurance annually, but only £2000 on a car? Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick here?

Dont throw £3600 a year away on insurance just to drive around in a car with a certain badge on the front, its pointless. Buy a nice clean car (£3-3.5k) thats going to be affordable to insure (£1200-1400 a year) it'll hold more of its value and once you've got experience and built up a NCB then you can sell it for a better return than £3600 down the drain that would have paid for insurance.

Chris.

I was thinking about a Focus.

1.6/1.8, 3 door, Zetec etc but a decent mileage example is like golddust for £2k.

I found one earlier but it had no air con, trivial I know.

£3600 on insurance is beyond ridiculous. I'd just buy something cheap and reliable with very very cheap insurance.

Buy something that costs a lot less to insure, and aim for less than £1k. If you are willing to pay £3600 a yr on insurance then send me some money as you obviously have far far too much to throw away.

Get something like a fiesta, focus, older golf. You are 18 and need experience, not a fancy or flash car, or suposed flash car which is an entry level BMW or audi :p

Save for the future when you have the experience, are out of your boy racer faze, and can actually get reasonable quotes on more powerful and desirable cars.

I know what you're saying.

I don't NEED a new car, I just want one.

I can't explain it but I just need to stop thinking about them

on that budget, at your age, with those cars... just no.

keep your 306 dturbo a little longer. no point at all to upgrade.

if you absolutely must, 1.6 focus.

It's absolutely not worth spending £300 a month on insurance to drive a BMW 316. It really isn't.

Some would deem the same to be true of say spending £1k+ to insure an e39.

Its all relative.

I concur though, some prices are just too much for the (lack of) return.
