Ive got a problem with IE7 on my vista desktop. Every so often it will hang, and the only way out is to ctrl/alt/delete and shut the service down. This crashes the program and allows me to restart it. It is doing this every day now, and is very frustrating because I cannot think of a fix. Apart from using a different browser of course, but I hate problems like this and I'd like to resolve it.

There doesn't appear to be any pattern to this - every other website will just cause it to hang. Is there any way I can add/remove or reinstall just the browser part?

Mines been doing that recently too, keep meaning to fix it but never have gotten around to it.

How? There is no uninstall.

It's listed with windows updates, so you have to uninstall it as an update.

Edit ignore that im getting confused with IE8.
the only way to get rid of it and start again would be to remove it from the installation with vlite or something, but it probably wouldn't be that stable.

Maybe it's only activated when you boot from it? I've just tried it within Vista obviously. But is this necessary? I don't want to wipe out all my service packs and patches etc etc. Generally I find things like this don't work.

Good post i have the exact same problems for a few weeks with ie7/x32 vista buisness i carnt seem to fathom a pattern to it at all because ill go back to same page where it last locked up and it loads fine.
not a massive problem but hell its annoying when your reading a big forum post...

I've completely reformatted my pc and installed everything again, it still does it. As i stated in my similar thread. Apparently it's to do with the addon's IE7 uses. But seems daft that there isn't a fix yet...

Why doesn't it effect everyone though? As far as I am aware I haven't installed any addons, or third party addons so I can't understand this.
I guess the only thing could be Flash maybe, or some javascript routine possibly?

Don't think so, mine just randomly locks up, start a new instance and it will happily load the page it locked up on.
