KwikFit AirCon ReCharge £25

Hmm was about to get mine done after seeing this thread but from what your saying lewis I dont think i will risk it at kirkcaldy lol.

Not as if the one in Glenrothes will be any better though :P

Was it a kind of popping clicking nosie very so often? Mine also used to do it, but I havent heard it since the recharge.

Yup that's the one. Along with a worrying sucking noise for a few seconds when the ignition was switched off after AC had been on a few mins. Now no longer does this, thankfully ;-)

Still drinks petrol with it on tho!!

I was gonna post something like that . . . . I believe even the connection ports are different to stop mistakes. Im pretty sure you cannot top-up the old type of refrigerant either due to environmental laws. Though im not entirely sure.

R12 which was used in older cars is banned due to high ozone depletion and global warming, anyone caught using will face a hefty fine and possible prison sentence.
They used 1/4 flare fittings which are still used in std aircon plant.

January next year R22 will be banned.

Got mine done a few days ago, air-con now works but illumnates the red stop light (flashing) on the dash when on.

There is a problem with your engine cooling fan. It looks as though there wasn't enough gas to kick the compressor in and turn the cooling fan on prior to the recharge, now there is the problem with the fan has showed itself.

No its just a red light which says stop (pug 306) and only flashes when air con is on.

^^^ check up under the passenger side arch, the fan controller unit burns out/fills with water and causes hassle. Turning on the air-con starts one of your fans on low speed, when it tries to use that circuit the STOP light kicks in. French heap! :p

Kwik **** machines are useless at testing for leaks, car aircon had stopped working, took it to kwik fit for a regas/pressure test.

All ok, drove off happy.

2 weeks later back to square 1.

Kwikfit refilled it again. It leaked again.

Took it to a specialist who diagnosed it as a leaking pipe.

Got a refund off kwik fit in the end. Avoid these as their machines are useless.

I think for the sake of £25 its worth a shot. If there is a leak and they never found it, I am sure you could ague and get money back.

I was holding out as I didnt think it was worth it in the ST24 due to the amount of hot days we get, but for £25 its worth a shot!

I had mine done this morning.

RECOVERED
00.160kg
RECOVERED OIL
0000ml
VACUUM TIME
020:00min
LEAK TEST
No Leak Detected
CHARGED 00.560kg

It certainly is a lot cooler in the car, but I don't feel all shivery like I do in some cars. Hmm...

KwikFits service is good when you have an aircon system that is working OK but lossing its cooling ability and needs a top up however if your aircon isn't working you would be better to go to a specialist. Thats how I would look at it anyway, £25 is a bargin.

Cheers, I'll go check that out :)

Mine is charged :)

Then guy who tried first had hooked the machine up to the high pressure side. It won't charge that side with no pressure!!

The guy today hooked it up to the low pressure side, no problems.

So if R12 is banned, does that mean just driving around with it in your aircon system will get you in trouble, or are you just not allowed to fill it up any more. I understand it's banned by international treaty too.

Don't you end up with poor performance once you convert it to R134 as well?
