Windows 7 beta - 9th January

Yup I've got it first time now and using the download manager. I'll be deleting the isos I download earlier as they fail verification on Nero etc. Also got keys first time :)

So it's going on my HP 6715b laptop which has 2GB RAM and soon to be 4GB :)

right well i remoatted last night and now dual booting w7 with vista, i had a few problems talking on teamspeak while playing a game, problems with counter strike and a few other niggles, its not stable enough to use as a main os just yet although i like it!

If I were to try W7 with VirtualBox, will it support x64? Only option on VirtualBox website is as follows:

"x86 | AMD64 (only on Windows x64!)"

If you are running an x64 host os, then you can run an x64 guest OS. The website just states that the host OS must be x64 Windows (you cant run an x64 W7 instal on an x86 Windows XP machine, for example)

Thought so but why have they put AMD64 as the x64 alternative? What has AMD got to do with it? Not nitpicking, just puzzled.

Because when x64 forst came about they were the only company to start branging x64 compatible proccessors. x64 proccessing quickly became branded AMD64. Im not sure if Intel x64 came later or what, but all they did was label there proccessors as EMT64 compatible (i think its EMT, but someone will correct me if wrong). Basically, that page was probubly written years ago when AMD64 was the commonly refered to way of labeling 64bit computers.

Oh yeah, your right. AMD64 was the first full x64 CPU on the consumer market, think the Itanium was crap or not fully 64bit.

Running the 64bit windows 7 beta now and so far loving it, rock solid, nice features and themes and didnt need to install any drivers

Finally got it installed, after a monumental mission involving 3 different defrag programs before Vista would let me shrink my partition!

Looks pretty nice so far, although it didn't detect and install drivers for my wireless card (but then Vista doesn't either).

Should be no problem getting a key for now -

Microsoft said earlier this week that it would limit the public beta to 2.5 million users, but it has now decided to offer unlimited downloads for the next fortnight.

I'm dual booting x64 Windows 7 and x64 Vista got my key and download no bother this morning. I'm seriously impressed with 7, I've never had an issue with Vista but Windows 7 is so much faster!
