Who's ditching their GTX 280 for the streamlined GTX 285?

Only the clinically insane I would imagine, a few % increase in perf for £400-500, PLUS losing what you spend on the 280 (unless NV have removed the "same model" blocking code for SLI).

Someone could always keep the 280 as a Physx card.

Wouldn't exactly refute their insanity though, would it ;)
(I mean I've yet to come accross anything that uses all the shaders on the 280, so there's always a few spare for those UT levels that actually use physx)

I keep forgetting though that this place is full of the real hardcore, more cash than cares types, who'll drop a grand to an extra 100 points on Vantage, so I am sure there will be a few takers.

Having clocked my 280 to 285 speeds and seen it make 1-2fps difference in most games the new cards would have to overclock like demons to make such a move worthwhile.

If you can sell your 280 for a good price, i.e. find someone very gullible, then you can buy the 285 for a few quid :)

So for the casual overclocker, it is not going to be much help? Damn.

I do still think that in the hand of volt-modders with water cooling blocks it will do better. If not, then the only reason to get one is for the reduced power draw. Which I suppose is a big deal if you are going (Tri) SLI.

I may sell one of my EVGA 260-216 to get GTX285 as it will be the fastest single GPU for at least 4 months. Resisted the urge to get a cheap GTX280 to wait and see how much the 285 is. I reckon around the £280-300 mark otherwise its a joke and not worth buying until the price gets sensible.

They would get so much Kudos from me if they sold it at...wait for it...

£285.00 :D That would be a win, both for price and for lollers. I can't see that happening though.

The GTX295 is in that price brackt, the GTX285 will naturally be cheaper.

Anyone with sense will buy a cheap GTX280 once the GTX285 is launched, or keep an eye on MM for the crop of used 280's that will inevitably start appearing soon.

Well it has to cost less than 4870X2 otherwise NV know its a hard sell. Probably on launch around £300-320 then when it settles down £285 is about right.

Good point. What with the 9.1 Catalyst drivers out sometime soon, the 280 doesn't stand a chance against the X2. Price will have to be right for the 285, as it still won't be as fast as the X2.
