Argh! Just logged into my internet banking, was shocked to see the balance of my Visa. Seems a payment went out to 'Mac Warehouse' on the 7th Jan for over £1200!

HSBC phonelines close at 10, will give them a call first thing tomorrow though.

Any idea if i'm covered for this? No idea how it's happened :(

You should be covered for it, they'll probably start and investigation, send you a new card etc.

They'll send you a declaration to sign confirming you did not authorise the payment, and sort it that way.

Had it happen to me a few months back, but HSBC picked it up the day it happened and called me, couldn't fault them tbh.

Yeah, sorry. I was craving some mac goodness, and your card was just lying around.

Seriously, VISA credit card? If so, zero problem them reversing charge.

Call 08456 007 010/01442 422 929 (24hr)

Thanks for the reassurance/help/phone numbers guys. Have just cancelled the card and will be giving credit control a call in the morning. should have a slightly better night's sleep now.

Glad we could be of help.

To be safe online and in life, always use a credit card.

Make sure there are no other charges from earlier. I know I got hit on my mastercard for a relativly low £30 Tesco top-up (They were testing the water). Only to find they had also tried to get a credit card in my name and change all my address details for the mastercard at the same time. Luckily the bloke who took all the info noticed my name and that the accent didnt match the area so nothing was done except a fraud investigation (Luckily!). Its a horrible feeling knowing that someone has stolen your identity. It wouldnt surprise me if they have other drtails to. Get a credit check done and query everything that wasnt you. They can get it removed from the file.

I would be surprised if a £1.2k purchase on a CC wouldn't come up flagged, my CC company rang me up after a £600 purchase and wouldn't authorize it they had my confirmation.

Okay, so they'll have his address that the item he purchased was to be sent to. Not really clever was he.

You'll be fine and he'll be in jail. The world will be a better place :)

I made a purchase of £8.99 and had my card blocked. I found out this was only because I had two small transacations in the space of one another. Recently though I've spent 4k on gear, guess what? went through easily!

A bit off topic though, I'm with Halifax I find their online banking security pretty easy to log in, I only need login, pasword, favourite sweet. Yet I try Barclays and have to use a card slot thing, to get a random number to log in, this takes longer but I do feel a lot safer. Anyone else feel the same?

Did see the note at the bottom saying 8am to 10pm but assume that is just for one of those numbers else why say 24hr, slightly confusing

Doubt you'll have any problems with this, most CC companies are good at tracking this stuff down ;)
