Answer: nope. they are practicaly the same all that the x64 bit allows you to do is to access mroe than gb of ram which you do not have

With only 2gb ram you'll see no performance increase.

I'd disagree with that. Tried the x32 version and thought it was pants. Changed over to x64 version and everything a lot snappier.

help

well you don't have to spend anymore money, if a mate has the 64 bit version disk just use your 32 bit serial number with that, or order the 64 bit disk from microsoft, less than a tenner (i think)

Hi do u have the link to this upgrade ? i,ve tried to order this ,but i get an error saying can,t process it at present ....

No reason to stay 32-bit anymore, any software worth having will be 64-bit compliant by now and there are performance benefits to be had. (having access to more ram being one of them)

You don't need to spend a single penny to go from 32bit to 64bit.

Just borrow a friend’s 64bit Vista DVD (Home Premium or Ultimate doesn’t matter) and install as normal but enter your product key that came with your disc. This product key tells Vista installer what version to install since Vista discs contain all versions.

I’ve done this twice now, once on my PC from 32bit Ultimate OEM to 64bit and once on my laptop which is a Toshiba OEM with home premium. I installed using the same 64bit Ultimate DVD (The ISO Microsoft released when SP1 came out) using my product key and it installed Home premium and activated over the phone perfectly. The good thing is you lose the OEM branding so no Toshiba logo or anything in system properties or bundled software which is nice :)

And yes, it is worth it. You can use more than 3.2GB RAM finally and benefit from speed boosts.

Have you clicked the link? Have you read the bit where it says Original System Builder media?

I can categorically say that you do NOT need retail to transfer from 32 to 64 bit Vista.

Well yes, I tried http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=notsureoem
But then lower down it says: "International replacement requests should be directed to the appropriate local subsidiary. For more information, visit the following Web site: " and if you follow that link, or go directly through the .uk website, I still fail to get my product key recognised as acceptable. Do you have a direct link to the page for entering your Key that will work?

I might just rip someone else's disk and use my key then...

Anyone switching from 32 to 64 or visa versa will almost always state the new install feels snappier (not necessarily measurably faster) than what they had before, but then all new installs feel snappy till you load them up with other applications and AV's etc..

Although, allowing for this, I have myself gone from 32 to 64 to 32 to 64 (I desperately wanted to get my old xbox controller with usb adaptor working after the first upgrade to x64 but there's no singed drivers for that :p ) on my home pc and changed a couple of work pc's/laptops with vista from 32 to 64 and the 64 I do think seems to run smoother

So, if you can upgrade for free (eg have the Retail), have all modern hardware which is unlikley to have issues finding signed 64bit drivers and are ready to reinstall anyway (or just for the hell of it), then go for it, but bung in another 2GB to for a pittance to really enjoy the upgrade.

Sorry again x64 loadas everything up way faster and feels mikles snappier than x32 even 2 months on. Accidently loaded my 32bit os a few days ago and it feels like a brick compared to vista x64.

If your using a genuine key, does it matter where you download the actual os from? I remeber a few people on this forum saying it was ok.
