Windows 7 beta - 9th January

Well I was going to use it as my main but I keep getting random blue screens and memory dumps. Can't seem to find a pattern its very intermittent.

I think if I'm going to do any work or anything I can't risk losing i'll use XP otherwise i'll use Win7.

BLOODY HELL IM ******* SORTED :D :D

Re-connected me XP drive, changed me other drive to basic, and it let me install it.

Then when it was done, i decided to try changing it back to IDE, and it still worked :D, so then i re-connected me XP drive, and thats it, im sorted, F12 Boot Menu, select Win 7 or XP to boot. :)

At last. :p

Thanks Tom for the help. :)

In DirectX 10 mode Far Cry 2 is about 6 percent faster on windows 7 x64 Beta 1. But if we launch the game with the DX9 render path, Windows Vista SP1 x64 reached the higher fps rate.

Running Left 4 Dead (dt.) on Windows 7 x64 Beta 1 results in about 2 to 7 percent more fps than on Windows Vista SP1 x64.

But one thing can already be said: Windows 7 has the capabilities to become the Vista customers had hoped for.

Realtek HD 7.1 Sound

The rears are distorted as v<>-< !
The Rears are very quiet , i can only set the DB Room Correction in 5.1 mode not quadraphonic
The Rears are not working with youtube videos.

Its the ONLY problem im having with windows 7 sound card issues , hopefully the xfi xtreme audio soundcard drivers get modded so that will work and i can have my rears back. Yes i know about the compatible mode

Come on , win 7 beta is nearly perfect for me :D:D

Why not just onboard sound for now?

Weird, my Extreme Gamer drivers work absoloutely perfect for me in 7

Ah that sucks Neil. Really impressed by just how well the Creative drivers are with Windows 7. Everything just seems plug and play so far, though I did have a problem with Fallout 3 sound crackling but this was solved easily by adding the game to Creative Alchemy.

Ah well :(

Anyhoo got another problem , my youtube videos are playing with black bars down either side ie they are not stretched to fill the window unlike with xp/vista.

Been running it for a few hours on my desktop and I'm fairly impressed by what I've seen so far. Had some trouble initially with the drivers for my wireless card not working (no option of cable in this uni accomodation, so I wasn't too happy), but after some arsing around I managed to coax it into working. In fact the wireless card is working even better than in Vista now (touch wood)!

I'll need to spend some more time with it to form a proper opinion. So far I'm not sure I'm fond of everything they've done with the taskbar - I'd prefer quicklaunch icons seperated from running applications, I think. But I like the some of the others features and the aesthetic is a little cleaner. Shockingly the IE8 Beta 2 wasn't a god-awful pile of toffee, though I've migrated to Firefox after a bit of playing.

Seems a little quicker/more responsive but that's probabaly at least partially due to it being a fresh install of an OS. Can't say I've seen noticably less use of system memory than Vista, though.

Not tried games on it but I've installed Far Cry 2. The process took almost exactly as long as it did on Vista (I timed them - there was about 6 seconds in it), but I think when it installed on Windows 7 it needed to update something extra.

Anyone else with an ATI card find theres a slightly jerky motion when opening and closing windows? Happens with both the vista and win 7 drivers. Its only a slight jerk but i notice it :(

I quite like the resizing of windows by draggint to the top of the screen or to either bottom corner. Basic stuff but very intuative. I find my self trying to do it in vista on my other machine or at work!!

Installed on my works laptop yesterday, so far so good, the taskbar is going to take soem getting used to, but liking it so far, pity it is still memory hungry like Vista :(
