People claiming compensation

I work in a law firm and unsuprisingly, our litigation department is very very busy at the moment.

Basically people are claiming for the most idiotic of accidents to cope with the current financial situation (normally called a term which I cannot stand such as 'economic climate'). Whatever it's called, for some reason it winds me up as it's all over the news every single day.

Anyway. I've just seen a file in which some inept doyleface has sat down on a basic office chair, fell off it and hit her head. Now she is claiming for compensation.

Suppose it's good that people are doing this as it means my job is more secure, the company is making money and also growing as a business. (If we win the cases that is)

Just thought i'd share, TFTI etc. :)

Thank you, kind sir, for bringing this to our attention.

Now; I'm suing you for hurting my, er, eyes, whilst reading your thread.

The law in this country needs a good shake-up to prevent this kind of trivial nonsense clogging up our courts/tribunals. I think that the concept of "personal responsibility" should be strongly factored into the considerations for any compensation claim - did the woman in this case just throw herself into an unfamiliar chair without checking it was stable for example?

I think anyone who takes out a trivial claim just on the off chance they could make a few quid seriously damages the integrity of the whole system that in reality is there to deal with serious cases of negligence with the overall goal of protecting people.

If I was the judge in this case I would be seriously looking for the woman to personally justify her claim and prove it wasn't just a money making exercise.

Lol. This really is the kind of attitude people have nowadays. Totally stupid accidents which is 100% their fault yet they want to get as much as they can out of the company for their own stupidity.

It's pathetic really.

I agree :)

Even though if this were they case I'd probably be out of a job.

Ohh and I don't know the specifics of this case, I've seen the photos and it's just a basic chair with no arm rests so I assume she's threw herself onto it and bounced off. :D

It is stupid, it's even worse in America. A woman once sued a department store (Home Depot) because she tripped over her own child in the store!

I read a brief on someone claiming over £6,000 because their son cut their foot on a metal swimming pool ladder (the standard ladders to get out of a pool).

Still, if we didn't get people like this (as well as all the crime) then I wouldn't be able to eat!

^^ too true (burnsy), too many people these days being complete plebs and getting payed for it!

When im pm/overlord there will be change....

I can honestly say hand on heart if i was a lawyer there is no way i could get involved with compensation stuff. Some of these lawyers are scum, you remember the two that made 24 million from the miners compensation cases....scum. The amount of grief it causes is unreal. IMHO one of the reasons that a lot of people only care about covering their arses at work and the blame culture.

We are turning into Americans ...
in every way.

:o

There's even an adver on the telly about a women who slipped in a bit of water and broke her knee.

For me that's her fault don't stand in indoor puddles.

Reimbursement of wages and medical costs = yes

extra cash for being a dosy git = no

We sure are.

Have you seen that advert on the telly for a cream that fat people rub on their thighs so they don't chafe? Insanity. Imagine you are a big fatty, do you

a) Lose weight
b) Smear cream all over yourself so your massively swollen limbs don't chafe on each other

Unfortunately for a lot of people, the answer is b)

I fall out of my chair all the time and it's got big comfy armrests, guess I'm just a spaz.:o

Can i sue god?

It's so daft, but you can't just blame the people that put in claims. If those sort of claims/cases were to lose more, then people would stop putting them in to court.
It sounds so incredibly daft, but someone actually supported it and is following it through?? So they must think they stand a good chance of winning?

Gotta partly blame the system for letting it happen too.

It definately appears that our nation is going the same way as the yanks.

Have you noticed now that as soon as you mention some kind of misfortune some silly sod always pipes up with "you wanna claim for that" or "a friend of mine did the same thing and got £28 million pounds compo"

What happened to the days where you were a man about an injury and rode out the pain, then went into work and received no sympathy whatsoever?
