Asda just rang

Smells a bit fishy

Anyways if the account is in your wifes name its her problem to deal with, once she has finished the ironing and cooked dinner :p

The more I think about this the more I feel it must be a scam. If you understand how the debit/credit car system works there's no way they wouldn't have the money if it’s legitimate.

They shouldn't hand over the goods unless the card has been authorised. If the card has been authorised then they should just be able to take the money from your account no questions asked. The only explanation is they've lost you card details, which I'm afraid is there problem. To get the money you’d have to re-authorise the payment which as far as I can tell you’re under no obligation to do.

You sure about that no obligation bit mate?

It's got to be a scam. Once you swipe your card and it is verified by the bank (they return an authorisation code) then the funds will be taken out of the bank.

Also why the hell would Asda ring chasing £76?

Odd.

The funds aren't taken out of the bank when you swipe the card - they are "hedged". The authorisation code will hedge them for a specific period of time - if the money isn't actually taken by this time, the funds will be un-hedged and become available again.

Not positive. But I work for an "e retailer" and I've had dealings with taking card payments. I'm pretty sure we'd have serious problems trying to force out customers to re-authorise a payment. I mean how do you prove what you're paying for, they could just make anything up? The whole thing is a bit of a mine field, and I'd be very interested to know who they've got themselves into a pickle like this.

The long and the short of it is if you’re a serious business, you don’t make mistakes collecting the cash.

EDIT: I could speak to the guy who wrote out charging system and find out for sure if you like?

First, ring you bank to query all outgoing/pending payments to ASDA in the last 2 weeks.

Then, if you cannot pinpoint the transaction/see that money has not been taken out ring ASDA HQ. Never rely on them ringing you.

This sounds like a scam.

Let them chace you for it, if they want it then they would send a letter to your home address, not call you randomly.

People stop telling him to pay, and wait and see what happens.

through the bank maybe?

If they have enough info to get that far they they could have gotten the money..

Ring the store (not via the number they gave you) and verify and pay.

If you have the recipt you can get them to check/verify the transaction code.

Ignore it. When/if they ring back say you don't have £76 until you get paid. Repeat until they stop ringing back. It's not worth their time, effort or money to chase such a small amount. Even if they do, say you have no recollection of buying these goods and have just noticed your card is missing from your wallet.

im shocked at the amount of ponses that are telling him to pay ASDA. its there fault.

Let them chase him

I hope you one day post about a shop ripping you off... :)

Well if asda rang you up and said "You didnt pay for your shopping, pay us back so much", what would you do?

Tell them to come to my house with proof that payment never took place and collect the money( in 1p coins)?
