I eat junk but remain skinny..

I imagine this is a case with a number of fellow geeks on here. However I was just thinking..

Even though Im skinny, is a crap diet gonna be clogging my arteries up like hell or is it mainly fatter people that suffer?.

I know i need to stop eating so many takeaways and monster sarnies etc, but am I reasonally safe from heart trouble?
 
Just because you don't have fat on you, doesn't mean you're necessarily healthier than someone who has.

Yes, a crap diet will have a negative effect on your health. Think of the cholesterol.
 
Depends how old you are :)

I was like that when younger, could eat what I wanted to and carry on regardless. Hit 23 and it started sticking! At 33 i'm 4stone heavier than i was at 22 but, tbh, i'm 'normal' weight now rather than a stick insect:)
 
You're 24. If I were you I wouldn't worry for another few years. You're an ectomorph but if I were you I'd start watching what you eat in your late 20s so you don't give yourself problems in later life. I totally revised my diet age 28.

Indeed, there's far more things that a bad diet causes, it doesn't all come down to the extra pressure on the heart being fat causes.

An example would be my father, he's run several London marathons and still runs quite a few miles a week (58 years old) but he always ate rubbish and drank too much. Now he suffers from very high blood pressure and is on medication for it. Fortunately due to doctors orders he has amended his diet, this combined with the medication has lowered it to less dangerous levels

too true, was there someone on here who posted they eat a lot then when they posted what there typical diet was. they barely had 2 meals.

Seeing as you know your stuff, Ive a mate who eats pretty much the same as me and does the same amount of weekly exercise as me too. He's 8 stone and really wants to put more weight on but says he can't. Is it just a case of him needing to eat more?

No that'll just put fat on. He needs to do more excersie and build muscle. Unless he wants fat then yes eat more.
 
Get a Cholesterol test done by your local GP.

If the number is above 5, and you have a history of heart problems / diabetes in the familty then you have cause for concern.

Most people I know are jealous about it, but it annoys the hell out of me, as I can never find trousers with a 28 (or less) waist and generally small clothes lol
 
yes. eat more, but eat sensibily. clean food. good sources of fat, carbs and protein.
also tell him to hit the gym and do a decent weights workout so that the weight he gains is lean mass rather than fat :]

post up a normal days diet (dont go ott just because you are listing, be honest).
also, whats your weekly exercise like?

Think its time i reviewed my diet. Ive always been a bit stupid in the fact that i think, "bah i dont mind.. ill eat it. Its not as if i need to watch the pounds."

Although in reality internally im probably clogging up like hell :(
 
He plays football for an hour non stop 3 times a week. He always moans about being skinny but claims that he eats loads. He will probably read this too :D

well, thats a lot of calories being burnt. If he was eating his maintenance level of kcal per day then no he wont gain weight.
he needs to ear more than the total kcal he is burning in a week to gain weight.

I dont disagree with you regarding the actually calorie count mate.

I know that if i was eating more I would gain weight, I understand that what im eating is actually probably hollow crap with no real substance.

My efforts to join the RAF at the minute are making me consider things a bit more.

I mean today all ive had to eat is a large pork sandwich (with peas pudding, stuffing, and crackling) and a large wholemeal ham cheese and coleslaw sandwich for tea.

Nothing really substantial.
