Hi there,

Ive got a 40GB PS3 conncted to a 40" Toshiba 40XF355DB LCD via HDMI.

Now Ive recently got NFS: Undercover. Started to play it and noticed that the picture judders / jumps quite a bit when other cars are around you. When there are other moving objects.

Not really noticed this before but I did try Gran Tourismo Prologue and this does the same. Not as much but a little when other cars are near you when breaking to a corner.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem? On Undercover, its getting a little annoying now :p

Thanks!

on nfs undercover its the game thats poorly coded/optimised massive threads on ea forums and does it on all versions as for gt prologue i dunno it runs fine for me a lot smoother than nfs anyway.

2p

Errr, sorry to ask a stupid question but... you don't mean the framerate is dropping do you? If so, there's nothing you can do about that.

It'll generally happen when the screen gets 'busy' in poorly optimized games (NFS:Undercover and The Darkness would be good examples) or games that are rendered in higher resolutions (GT:5P is rendered at near 1080p).

It seems you have accidentally picked up two games that suffer from framerate issues. It's not to common but it does happen and sadly there's nothing you can do about it.

For super slick high resolution lovliness get Wipeout HD off the PSN for just over a tenner, runs at a solid 60fps at near 1080p resolutions (god knows how they managed to code that). If racers are your thing, Ferrari Challenge is very good and i haven't seen any framerate issues at all.

All the other games Ive got are fine. Never noticed anything. (Fifa '09, PES '08, GRID, DIRT, F1, Vegas 2, RFOM).

NFS Undercover is terrible, its like a slide slow. Even my gf commented on it and doubt she would normally notice average slow-down. Gran Tursimo has been fine with me though I have heard of frame-rate issues and tearing with it before so it probably is just the games. Youre TV doesnt have any know issues of input lag or anything?

It doesn't as far as I know.

I cant believe they made Undercover like this. Spend abit more time on it and make it playable. Is it like this on 360?

iirc it's better on the 360 as its easier to code for, but still not perfect. To put in perspective how poorly made undercover is for you; EA have now canned the series, it was the straw that broke the camels back due to its rubbishness. There are a couple of games out there that suffer, but as you've noticed, the majority are absolutely fine. After reading around a bit it seems that Undercover is in fact one of the worst so you won't see em this bad often.
