Lost my Special Delivery tracking number

Hey guys like an idiot I went and misplaced my Royal Mail Special Delivery tracking number.

As luck would have it I have all my previous receipts - except this one which I need the most.

Basically its for a refund for some train tickets - I had to cancel the trip and sent the tickets back as instructed using Special Delivery. My card still hasnt been credited (its been about about 3 weeks) so I emailed the ticket people and got an email back saying:

Give us the 13-digit tracking number

The tickets were for £275

Beleive me Im kicking myself but what I wanted to ask was have any of you lot been in the same situation. Can Royal Mail tell me my tracking number because its "in the system"? If I tell them date of posting, place of posting & destination?

Well you heard it here - keep important documents safe. File them IMMEDIATELY after getting home or at least chuck them in a box.

If you go and ask very nicely at the post office where you sent it, they might dig up the old hard-copy records for you and see whether they could locate it. You'd need pretty accurate information though - I can't see that they would be too keen to wade through much more than a day's worth of Special Delivery records, perhaps even less if it's a big branch.
