The idle temperature for this new processor I purchased is 53 degrees :<

Not only that, but the stock heatsink and fan is very loud and stays at maximum speed unless i set Q-Fan in the Bios to Silent. Doesn't seem to change the temperature either - stays around 53ish.

Are these acceptable temperatures for idle? I am used to 35ish on Intel CPUs...

If not, can anyone recommend a good replacement cooler that's both silent and efficient at keeping the temperatures adequately low?

P.s. does it matter which side of the retention bracket goes on which clip holder?

Regards!

Either your bios is wrong or the heatsink isn't seated correctly.

My 2.6GHz Brisbane overclocked to 3.4GHz at 1.45v is only 36'c idle.

The standard AMD heatpipe heatsink is actually quite good.

Its just a diddy fin heatsink with a really small but loud fan :<

I lifted the heatsink and the thermal paste has made contact properly. I'm at a loss as to why it's so high.

after 4 hours of orthos my 7750 never went above 57c on the stock cooler and 32c idle , it never goes above 52c while gaming at 3.1ghz . it looks like it is giving a false reading , what mobo/bios you using ?

I am using the Asus M3A78 Pro : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-312-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=805&name=Asus%20M3A78%20Pro%20AMD%20780G%20(Socket%20AM2+)%20PCI-Express%20DDR2%20Motherboard

Updated the Bios to 0702. Apparently that's what the 7750 requires

Weird :<

Bios at start says 53 degrees ish, Asus PC probe II says the same, but this program - uninstalled it now forgot the name - by AMD (Amd something or other) said 40ish.

Edit: Amd overdrive utility says 40ish degrees

At stock with an Arctic Cooler 64, my 7750 idles at about 27 and only reaches 42deg full load. At 3.2ghz it idles at 34 and never goes above 50 full load. I'd recommend you get a new cooler and make sure it's seated well with some Arctic Silver.

What should I believe? 53 Degrees Bios or 41 degrees AMD OverDrive :P

The annoying thing is the fan speed is based off the Bios temperature anyway.

try another better cpu cooler , then if the temps are still the same you will know it's the bios giving false readings . which version of AOD are you using ?

Well I bought a cheapo Arctic Cooler ( the 90mm fan one with max 2300ish rpm) and my temps have definitely dropped adn the noise level also.

However, which do I believe?

Temperature sensor 0 39°C (102°F) <mobo temp
Temperature sensor 1 45°C (112°F) <cpu temp
Temperature sensor 2 84°C (183°F) <north bridge ???

above is my readings from hwmonitor after 30 min of fc2 , in your copy what does the readings say for temp sensor 2 say ? , below is per core temps (these temps match my bios readings)

Temperature sensor 0 33°C (91°F) (Core #0)
Temperature sensor 1 33°C (91°F) (Core #1)

ive got that board, there are 2 later bios releases, try those

you have to download them from the site, they dont come up on the asus update program for some reason

edit: mine is actually the non pro, might aswell try anyway as the update program doesnt list the latest versions

I had a similar problem with the 5000x2 BE, temp readings were everywhere. It was the bios, I had to try a lot of different ones to get the temp down.

I'll never know if this actually fixed anything, but it puts your mind at ease when you don't see the cpu temp at 60c.
