Seen quite a few posts on here about the E71, and there seems to be plenty of love for it (I've got an E51 which I use as a work phone, so I can understand why). One of my colleagues at work showed me his new 8900 the other day, though, and it seemed pretty slick...

Anyone here had any experience with the 8900, and have thoughts on how it compares to the E71? I know that it lacks 3G, for a start, but user experiences would be of interest.

Main things I use my personal phone (N95 8GB) for currently, other than calling, clearly, are as a music player and for accessing email/internet via wifi (not on an unlimited data tariff yet). I'm especially looking to improve email capabilities, hence looking towards QWERTY phones. Decent internet browsing would also be handy, along with good reception!

I've got the E71 and have used the 8900 at work. Both are good devices but if I had to choose I to keep, it'd be the E71. 3G, better battery life, marginally better keyboard (IMO), Symbian OS.

Ive onlyu played with the 8900 and not the nokia...cant stand them anymore due to Symbian being a POS OS. But the 8900 was a joy to use, lovely screen, fantastci keyboard but the lack of 3G killed it off for me sadly but i hear that later this yr Blackberry might have a 3g enabled 8900 and if so then ill be jumping from my Bold to that one.

Isn't the Bold basically the 8900 with a few spec improvements such as 3G? I know the Bold is slightly bigger than the 8900 but that also adds to the better sized keyboard etc...

The Bold came first. The 8900 is what the Curve is to the current 8xxx
I know that, but I just meant they're pretty much identical except for a few more feature on the Bold, plus physical size differences as far as I know. Is there anything on the 8900 that isn't on the Bold?

8900 has a slightly higher res screen (480x360 vs 480x320), 3.2MP camera instead of 2MP, and I think the Curve has 256MB RAM vs 128MB in the Bold...

The physical size thing is part of the reason I'm not so keen on the Bold (I could probably just about come to terms with the horrible leathery back...).

If you want a keyboard, wait for the n97 or get a touch pro, xperia x1 or a g1

Dont know about the N97, it looks like a nice phone and something i might consider.

But the other ones you have mentioned are pretty dire phones mainly because they run Winmo which truly sucks eggs. The G1 altho Android is pretty cool and nice...well the phone looks like a fisher price toy tbqh. Perhaps when they make a phone that looks nice then id consider Android but until then....im sticking with Blackberry.

Tbh mate i thought exactly the same thing before i got my Bold and honestly it isnt that big a device as i thought it would be. Its a bit wide but i havent exactly got big hands but i find it fits my hands pretty well....not really a fan of the leather back myself but otherwise its a lovely piece of kit.
