Looking for a new GFX card, have a 4850 atm, just looking for some more power, dont see the point getting a 260 or 4870.
So 4870x2 or 295 i think it will be. I want to upgrade to single card atm really. I have an x48 board so I could add a second 4870x2 at some point, but by the time that would happen I would prob be build a i7 system.

Im running @ 1680x1050 res, but may get a new monitor soon, even if i dont the card should last a bit.

So what you think??

well if you are wanting the most raw power the GTX 295 is king at the moment

yes,

the question you need to ask yourself is are you going to future expand your setup, so if your motherboard is Corssfire only then stick with 4870x2.

is Sli board get Gtx 295

The only major I am likely to do is to an I7 Platform. I believe some x58 boards can do both xfire and sli?
But Yeah I suppose a x2 would give me more possibility with my current setup.
Does one run cooler/quiter than the other?

With the introduction of those chuncky GTX-925's the X2's will be falling in price. So, if you want more performance per buck, the X2's might be a better choice. IMO.

295 until the ATI price drops filter through. The X2s will be under £300 soon.

You can get them for under £***. There's a few people that have dropped hints of them around the forums. They're there if you look for them.

Any gain the 295 offers over the X2, is no way near the difference in money. The gains are only in a few games, on average they're pretty much the same, even with the X2 occasionally bettering it.

Why not add a second 4850? It'll give you a nice boost and won't cost a bomb either.

At 1680*1050 any dual-GPU solution is a waste.

Having owned a GTX280 and a 4870x2 and played at 1920*1200 and also 2560*1600, I would stick to the single GPU solution on anything less than a 30" screen; far more consistent performance.

I would wait until you upgrade the monitor before deciding which card to go for.

X2 4870 = price/performance king

GTX295 = performance king

At 1680*1050 or less get the 4870. Any higher get the GTX295 if you don't mind paying.

Money isnt really a problem. And id rather Upgrade GFX before a monitor. Probably be a bout a Year b4 upgrading to I7 methinks.
The 4850x2 was tempting me for a bit, but then i might as well get another 4850. Do the x2 models runa bit more reliably than a Crossfire setup?

Aint this all a bit.... Not, not a bit... Erm totally stupid when a single 4870X2 will run anything you throw at it extremely well.. I feel sorry for anyone who'd buy 2 or 3 295's or 285's only to find there aint even a game that needs that much 3d power at the min. What a complete waste! It can only be for the e pEEn
